Well. If you sail to a new port, depending on the area, you can get money from the customs officer signing your passport.

The economy isn't that bad. Most regular sailing ships carry around 20-60 gold, and merchant ships, 100-200 gold. More and more eventually. But yeah, you can try talking to the locals about the economy.

"Yarr, how many of ye patrons be travelers for our great Alliance? How much do the customs officers pay out on the usual?"

Well, usually, right now, the ports around you can pay you about 10-50g.

The farther, the more money.

How many weeks is it to that north port on the island? Do we have enough food? Do we need more food, how much, whats the cost? Whats the cost if we hire one new person? Both?

We only have 67 gold remaining.

Arr!

Ye hired the two brigantines, with their jobs on the deck. I have no imagination, so thee has to think of what they say. Now, Where to sail forth, landlubbers?

...

Spoiler: Ye Olden' Map (click to show/hide)

Sailing to the port north of the egg island will take approximately 6 days. Do ye sail to port? [y/n]

Sail closer, once a fair distance within range, turn and broadside them. Then turn back, sail forward, repeat.

  Exchanging fire! Take cover!

Simplified everything by making the sea one base color so you can see everything better.

Change to grape shot if we can and fire with that. Same tactic as before, if not continue using round shot. Once close enough, board.
