Mine things browser game
« on: July 22, 2009, 03:24:47 pm »

Didn't see anything about this on the forum already so was wondering if anyone here has seen the browser game Mine Things? It's kinda new so its possible no one has. Anyway I bring it up here since well I figure who else might like a game about mining then fellow dwarf fortress lovers! That and if you need something else to waste time on, this doesn't require to much, just log in and check findings at least every 16 hours till you get more melds. Course if you want to be a trader, pirate or hunter of pirates, then you'll probably be checking in more often.

The theme is people in the future are returning to Earth from Mars after Earth has finally recovered from Yellowstone erupting. Upon arriving they setup mines to start digging up artifacts from the past.

It's fairly simple. The basic idea is you have one or more mines (max 3 active) that pull either gold or items from the ground. You then can use the items you to create melds (usually require more then 1 item and act as a kind of score and battery bosoter), sell them, or if they're from certain mines, then they may have special purposes for use (gadgets, vehicles, weapons, explosives, and equipment mines currently fit this). Mining is automatic as long as you have enough battery time left and charging the batteries is as easy as visiting the findings page (16 hour max charge with 0 melds +1 hour per additional melds).

So starting off you can be a Trader or a Bum. Traders can use vehicles to move items, Bums just steal stuff should someone go 100 over their inventory max. At 10 melds you can become a Merchant or a Worker. Workers work for 1 week at a paid up front salary, Merchants are the sea Traders. At 20 Melds you can be a Guard or Bounty Hunter, they hunt their respetive thief classes for bounties. At 30 you can be a Highwayman or Pirate to steal stuff from others. 40 is Pilot to bomb the ore base or a fisherman to fish the seas. At 50 you can be a manufacturer or a currently unknown profession. Manufacturers make special new bots, planes, factories and bombs (maybe more in the future), they hire workers.

Please note that minethings has now expanded and posses two servers to choose from. The default is the brand new server Bromo, however, you can change to Aso or create accounts on both. If you use the same name the accounts should automatically link together so that you can change under the cities tab. Aso is established and you can get loans from other players, Bromo is new and building, many of Aso players are doing what they can to help it start, but it'll be slower going then Aso. The two servers have different maps and mine layouts.

They have a recruitment link for anyone interested in using it. Note that it gives me nothing unless you purchase credits with real money. http://www.minethings.com/miners/index/+1462

There is also now a Bay 12 Guild created for the purpose of Dwarf Fortress and Bay 12 players. The leader was Sturmfeder (  http://www.minethings.com/miners/show_items/Sturmfeder ) but he has gone inactive and I'm attempting to find a replacement.

Course for those who don't wish to follow the recruitment links here is the website http://www.minethings.com/

Should you try it out, on Aso I recommend mining gold or getting a loan to buy your first several melds, equipment, vehicles and ships.. Also selling and buying is purely based on what you think it's worth versus what others think it's worth. So if you think an item is worth 100 gold, sell it or bid on it at that much, but no one may agree.

If your interested but want to know more let me know.

My name over there is navan ( http://aso.minethings.com/miners/show_items/navan ) and I currently have 61 melds and three Weapons mines in Burbana (also my home city).  I'm also apart of the guild known as BLU-82 and I am their land control person and honestly the top land power.

Salutes,

I guess I'll try this out though I'll probably get bored of it in short order.

Only wanted to point out that this game has now added a new dimension in via a second island and city that requires a ship to reach and 3 new sea only professions (trader, pirate and hunter). Further the new city currently has the new ship mine and will have a cannon mine in the near future to equip said ships (third mine likely, but unknown). However, if a ship is carrying weapons then the crew will use the bests ones if they are boarded. Finally a ship is avaible for 1 gold from the starter mine, the raft, but you need 20 melds to use it and it's slooow (it's a 2+ day journey).

Oh and being I now posses a vehicle and weapon mine, anyone looking for yellow items from these can send me a message and if I have something available I can try to bring it to trade where you need it (for cheap or reasonable price). Do note that I do have greens and higher from each, but those are items I'm currently using (though if you'd like a Crowbar I could part with that).

Eh, I'll give it a shot.

Ok, am I doing something completely wrong or is it supposed to take more than three hours to find a single gold?

No it's not you, in the beginning it really stinks on the frequency of finds.  The quanity found though will vary for about 1 to 5 gold with occasional finds above 10 and rare finds above 100.

To help on frequency you'll want to buy one each of the yellow pieces of equipment. Each one gives +1 bucket per hour for a max of 7 from all the types. Note that only one of the best of each type is used for the bonus bph. Note that green equipment give +2, blue +3, red +4, purple +5 and orange can only be assumed to be +6. After you have the +7 you should find that you're getting noticeably more. Heck my Starter mine seems to do good with 32 bph pulling at least 3 or 4 finds a day on a bad day. While over in Burbana I typically find 5 or 6 items from each mine (rough estimates).

I wouldn't be surprised if the highest level gave +10.
Then a full collection would give a nice round 100 BPH.

On the other hand, maybe it is just +6.

Yeah I've wondered that as well, +6 seems such an odd amount to stop on. However, that will stay unknown till someone finds an orange.

Edit:
Forgot about this, but anyway when the new patch went in an autotrash ability was added. Based on the first item was autotrashed, starter mine was likely within a few hours, I've found 7 yellow Starter items. Further 8 yellow vehicles, 3 yellow weapons and 2 green weapons. However, vehicles and weapons aren't reliable being I only have 2 vehicles set to autotrash and no weapons. But from this you can see that at 32bph I had at least 7 starter items over a day and a half (which may correspond to gold finds of 1 to 5 gold).

Edit2:
Overnight I got 3 starter and 6 in burbana (including my first 2 blue weapon finds). If you see new ship discoveries know that I rented said mine and am using it to build up a little fleet to have (that and get first dibs on them). I unforately don't have the credits for anything more and the only way I can get more is through artwork (and I seem to have ran that dry).

4g

So anyway, I now have 8 melds and I'm mining at 39 buckets an hour.

DANG Great find Peewee! Wish I had that kind of luck.

Oh hey if anyone should really get into things and should get an explosives, gagets or even the future Cannon mine once released definitely let me know. Otherwise if you ever consider moving cities just say so and I'll do what I can to reduce your pirate encounters by sending what fleet of vehicles I have to tie them up.

Oh I also have sold off my vehicle mine and starter mine for a second and eventually a third weapons mine. Kinda decided it's best to just specialize in something rather then try to get multiple mine types.

What I'm currently doing is just buying things and selling them at a higher price. I have around 700 gold and 17 or so melds. The game is rather monotonous, but since it doesn't require much from me, I'm playing it. How's the exploring going?

Kinda does stink in the beginning cause High low is about all you can do. Course know that Adam one of the top players got so good at the high low game that he pretty much got to where he is from it (also sounds like he ticked off people I hear as well because he was quite ruthless in it). Course now he is one of the most feared Land Pirates there is, which isn't quite fully a direct response to his gold gains, rather I'm certain he had to of purchased or rented a vehicle mine at some point since there are no sales history on the Assault Truck he uses (also has an armored limo).

Course there is means to get excitement. Become a hunter or pirate and try to clean or pillage the roads. Granted in the beginning that's difficult, but it's possible to do. Otherwise if you get enough vehicles you can convoy from one city to the next usually in a relative safety. Reason being is it takes an hour to resolve combat and during that hour the pirate being detained can pass your load vehicle or be drug back far enough to that your convoy has a chance for the loaded on to make it to safety. Course pirates can use similar tactics to bring down trader convoys, which in turn could get hunters doing similar behavior.

Otherwise there is always Explosives!!! If you have the gold or real money to buy the mines you're guaranteed a great steady flow of gold as even the yellow items from that mine sell for 30+ gold. Granted said items only give you a chance to find on average 1 item (I think 0 to 3 tops), but finding BLU-82 the biggest baddest explosive that has ever been found gives around 150 items. Manifest on the forums reported getting 154 ships, of that everyone could see he had obtained a red and blue ship and more then likely numerous yellows; the true numbers of these are only known to him and those he tells, unless you get lucky to spy his fleet not moving. Oh and never use explosives for gold mining, it's not going to gain anything good.

Again should anyone be interested though in explosives, do please let me know as I can arrange sea transit for your items you need to reestablish melds. Course if you're interested in any other mine types and want to move to said city I still offer my service to assist.

I started a couple of days back and have slowly managed to get my buckets to 37ph, im exploring all the places so i can see what sort of mines there are but i will most likly settle for explosive mines. The starter mine seems such a waste of time, it sucks at giving items and the max gold ive ever got is 18. I put it on mine things over night and all i got was 1 yellow i think i must be bugged or something :P.

Nah thats about normal. Heck over night my 2 weapons mines in Burbana managed to only squeeze out 2 yellow weapons at all during the night. So when you think about it it's no different then your starter squeezing out 1 yellow. Course the worth of them are different soly because everyone has starter mines in the beginning.

So are explosive mines only on the other islands that you don't start on or something? And how do you get a second mine without credits?
