There is so something he can mod!

Okay. Go int the raw files- find the Troll entry. If you see a tag like [HOMEOTHERM:number], replace the number with 40000. If you don't see one, add the entire tag in.

Load up the game. Assuming there isn't some bug where undead aren't affected by their relevant raws, your troll should explode, and seeing as you said it was 20-odd z-levels away, your dwarves should be unharmed.

Note that this will a splode ALL your trolls, and a splode any more trolls that appear, in case of a goblin invasion.

Be sure to set it back to normal afterwards!

++EDIT++
Just to make sure, if you have to put in the Homeotherm tag, put it at the end of the troll entry. If you just have to replace the number in an existing one, don't bother.

Hit esc, then go to save game. The game will save then return to the menu screen (don't ask why, it's because that's how Toady wants it).

As for your troll, why are you worried about it? Why aggravate the denizens of a bottomless pit until you have an army to kill them off? Is there any real reason you want to dig there beyond the excitement of sweeping it into the pit?

Living trolls are pretty tough, undead ones are even worse. The best way to kill a live troll is with marksdwarves or speardwarves, both of which are useless against the undead. If you decide to use military dwarves to kill it, go with hammers to bash it into the pit or axes to dismember it, the only reliable ways to kill the undead.

Note: I may be wrong on the speardwarves vs live, though I know spear are mostly useless against the undead, as they don't require their internal organs to live.

No, once you exit, the entire DF folder self-deletes and you have to download the game and reinstall again.

Of course you can come back!

But (and this time I'm serious) - be aware that the game will save to the same folder you opened.  So if you have seasonal auto-saves, it won't save to those, but whatever the file was that you opened to start the game.

Dig a hole near it. Throw a cat in. Save, and mod cats to be thermonuclear.
Reload the game.

I made a tower with fortifications and killed about 30 giant eagles and nothing else is coming.

Another problem about starving an opponent, just for future reference, is that only your own citizens get hungry, with the exception of pets modded in to be [INTELLIGENT] (don't ask me why, that's just how it works).
Also if your fortress is suddenly full of crazed (but not violently so; don't worry about them) civilians they'll die of hunger or thirst if given the time.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Use a marksdwarf to shoot at it. Sure, they do little if any damage against undead, but eventually they'll shoot off the limbs to the point where it'll drop. As a bonus, your marksdwarf will get a huge boost to their skill rating with a crossbow after chewing through that much ammunition.

That's how I dealt with a colony of skeletal trolls sitting underneath my bridge across an underground chasm. You get a competent or better marksdwarf at the end.

I kinda can't use the marksdwarf. The only place i can put him has a ledge above it preventing him from shooting it.
