Not soon though (at least not in the US).  For large legal changes, people in charge always start voicing opinions to that effect a few years in advance so people get used to it.  And then it comes in slow.  Decades ago, people said that red-light cameras would never work in the US.  Now, there are few people who would call them unreasonable.  Most people simply tolerate them.

Anything can be made to sound reasonable if you're used to hearing it and it doesn't directly change your way of life.  People like being comfortable and not having to think.

You want to know where world politics will be in 4 or 8 years?  Just listen to what the Obama administration says offhand.

Its wrong to block ads guys, anyone who does it is a pirate.

A WEBSITE PIRATE.

Soon enough it will be against the law, just you wait.

It's not piracy...It's CYBER TERRORISM. People who block ads are enemies to capitalism. And freedom. And truth, justice, and the American way.
I'm sure they'd love to make it against the law, but it would be impossible to police.

Well, probably only if the Dems are still in charge at that point. I'm not saying I wouldn't want them to be, I'm just sayin'.

Well I did say 4 or 8 years.

I doubt there will be a massive 2010 republican resurgence.  Maybe in 2012.  But I've been wrong before.  Anyway, enough on that.

There was a patch on the adblock programme which prevented it from blocking ads on the, um, adblock programme's site.  After a near riot on the forums they took the code back out.

I like some ads. I found some interesting things on some of them. And I don't like ad-blockers any more than I like anti-spyware or the ads themselves. I go for minimal software on my computer.

Personally, I just boycott most sites that have annoying ads; most sites which have them aren't very good ones. Eegra.com, one of the sites I respect most, actually pulls down offensive ads from their site.

Ad blockers are nice.
I use one to block annoying sound/video/expand when moused over ads.
I should probably unblock google ads. Those are very funny sometime.
Also, my ad blocker doesn't block project wonderful ads.

A good hosts file is better.  It'll get just about everything.

Project Wonderful ads are good though.
No sound/video/expansion and they lead to legitimate things, not some crappy "give us all your personal info and credit card numbers and we'll send you a free car!"

"Hot LARP Action"

"There are other geeks near you
get it on geek 2 geek."

This was on the DF wiki.

I need to clear my cookies. Badly.

Yeah doesn't google ads look at your history as well as current page content?

What's that say about you, hmm?  :o

Google definately saves your search history, and sends ads accordingly.  I don't think it looks at your history.

I meant search history, not website history. Sorry for being unclear.

Don't worry, I don't know all that much. I just bluff 99% of the time.

Did anyone else notice that the Evony ads say stuff like "Play discreetly"?  They really want people to think it's sexy, don't they?
