Heres video to my latest trap design the floodomizer:

http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1544-motherofallfloodingtrapsfloodeverything

Basically bottomless pit turned to giant water tank, with aid of aquifiers and pump system filled to full and unleashed at MAXIMUM CAPACITY! on unsuspecting goblin siege, note that doors flooding everything were open for seconds at most, rest is the rocketing water flooding on everywhere, flooding half the map  ;D

Whats best about it, it can be reloaded quite fast and be reused in quite short time thanks to drainage system to level below on the bottomless pit.

Took several years to fill it from bottom to full. Hope you guys like it.  ;D

haha I loved the trapped dwarves drowning and the accidental(?) drainage into the magma pit with an imp sitting there, wondering WTF is happening.

Holy carp, that was funny.

Forget about having the walls stained with blood or mold. That thing's also a pressure cleaner. I bet when it made contact with everyone inside, they were reduced to bones on contact; seeing how powerful that force must've been. Armor ain't gonna help one bit. It just makes it easier to sort out the slaughterhouse.

yeah those were accidents, didnt plan on those dwarves to drown, forgot that i dug to magma pit earlier but didnt seal it, and now i realized how much CLEANING that trap takes, so many rotting corpses, and how their leader ended up middle of my flooded pit, thats still mystery to me ;D now that sand desert front of my fortress turned to mud desert with turtles crawling around.

How can you fill a bottomless pit? Wouldn't it just go through the lowest z-level?

Can someone more versed in the ascii version explain what the hell happened?

All I saw was water travelling at the speed of light straight up.

I'm interested in how :S

It was watery version of nuclear bomb caused by MASSIVE water pressure from filling that bottomless pit to top, moment that goblin steps on the trap it releases massive burst of water in very short time, exploding on anything on its path running all way to surface due waterpressure, reaching it maybe 2-3 seconds later  ;D

I'm tempted on constructing switch to manually activate it to flood the entire desert with longer open duration.

The water was stored on  a z-level above.  Viewed from the side before:

Code: [Select]
.~.
.~.
.~. .
.~.X.
.~~~.
.....

And after:

Code: [Select]
.~.
.~.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.~.~...............
.~.~.
.~~~.
.....

And it will do it almost instantaneously.  It's actually suprisingly realistic for a depiction of water pressure in-game.

And now add bottomless pit with 17 z levels filled with water and see what happens  ;D

Firing it aint the hard part, hard part is getting it recharged and not screwing up on some idiot mistake and accidentally draining 90% of the pool, like forgetting to close the exit drain  :P

Or missing that lone goblin  baby snatcher deciding to go test your  toy while your dwarves somehow miss it while still inside the tunnel
