I played this game very little before upgrading to revolutions.  So that's pretty different since capitalists don't build factories and railroads IIRC.  This allows for dwarfy behavior though!  Tax the nobles into poverty!

The U.S. is a surprisingly fun choice in this game.  Yes, you are richer then God and can steamroller your enemies, but you have easy but fun wars against England, Mexico, Mexico again, CSA and Spain.  But better yet, it's possible to buy the continent of Africa from Europe, who will then stupidly spend the money on socialized healthcare and wine.  Clearly, there is nothing more American then buying a continent!

So what should I do? Heres a list of what I think i should do:
  • Research pratical steam engine. Its a prerequisite to experimental railroads. You need railroads.
  • Increase the number of divisions we have, if we can afford it, and mobilize those we have in reserve
  • sort out the budget. 49% tax for all classes, 50% crime figting and education, any deficit made up with tariffs.
Feel free to suggest your own ideas. If noone disagrees, i'll be doing that in a couple of hours.

Steam engine is the most sciency idea. I support it fully! But we really should balance that budget first.

100% education, always!

education = literacy = science!

Don't mobilize, instead, train armies.

Mobilizing is seen as being a hostile action.

Go for steampower!

You really aren't thinking like a dwarf.

If you think it is down too far, you move it up until it reaches an acceptable elevation.

Get literacy to 100%

Also, don't mobilize the reserves unless you need them (i.e. war)

edit: Oh yes, and definitelly balance the budget.  Good luck with that; it's usually the hardest thing at first, especially for those who aren't like total experts.

Anyone have any experience with Gamersgate (particularly copy protection)? They're having a sale for all Paradox games 50% off. Victoria + expansion pack are $12.45 together (Save 3 cents for buying the complete edition instead of buying them separately!).

I bought Revolutions from Gamer's Gate a couple years back, played with it for a while and then forgot about it.

A couple months ago, I wanted to reinstall it.  It took about 10-15 minutes to get my password back, but they still had the game there for me and there was no problem downloading or installing.  I have no complaints there.

As for copy protection, I haven't tested it extensively but have had no problems.  I don't know what it would be like to, say, move it from one computer to another.

I also need to do the trade. I'm thinking 200 steel and concrete, 100 of everything needed for soldiers, and a small (enough for two conversions) stack of stuff needed to convert POPs into craftsdwarvesmen and clerks.
