I would like TVTropes so much more if there was an 'ignore obscure anime references' section.

There's a pretty big gripe to that in the headers to the "Nakama" and "Band of Brothers" pages.  Namely, that the exact same concept exists across cultures, but within TVTropes' frame of reference, it has to be called "Nakama" forever, because the page was first made by some otaku instead of an English scholar, and "Band of Brothers" is forever relegated to just the TV series and a redirection link.

Nakama means like best friend companions, right?

Yeah, nakama is something like a most-trusted, bestest best friend in the world.

I may not be an otaku, but I've always interpreted as someone who would die for you, and you for them. Is that right?

The people who made it also made a mistake

For example: Convection isn't averted... in Dwarf Fortress heat only transfers if the Lava actually touches the object.

Yes it is. The air around the lava should be hot enough to kill people.

Yay for otaku. I consider myself otaku rather than geek, mainly just because stupid people get geeks and nerds mixed up.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

The Nakama/Band of Brothers, at least, is justified with Band of Brothers being the name of a TV series. If you've got two possible names, better to use the one that isn't used by something else.

That said, some aren't quite so easily-justified. Like the way just about every personality trope in there is in Japanese.

The Air around Lava doesn't hurt anyone in Dwarf Fortress so it isn't Averted.

Yes I know how Convection works but the trope for Convection is actually the opposite.

P.S. guys. The Japanese own the young of this and every other country. They created the technology, they invented all the best cultural phenomena, they rule this world.

All glory to the hypnotoad vastly superior Japanese overlords!

Well, after that second post, they might manage to remember "otaku" means "worships the Japanese to an idiotic degree".  ::)

I don't worship them.

By "Convection" in your post, I thought you meant actual convection, not the trope about it.
