Insta-unhappy diplomat?

Situation: A small skirmish happened between the dorfs and some goblins, in which my mayor tragically met his end.

A few days later, the dwarven caravan arrives, along with the village liaison.

The instant he arrives, I'm given "A diplomat has left unhappy." and the village liaison is gone.

What the hell?

You hadn't elected a new major yet, so there was nobody for the liaison to meet, so he left, unhappy because he wasn't able to hold a meeting.

He should be back next time.
