Overkill?
« on: July 18, 2009, 09:06:05 am »

one of my anti seige traps consists of 10 z-levels of mountain, balanced on a single support, which will be dropped upon the slightest provocation. too much?

right now its hooked up to a lever, but i was thinking of installing pressure plates for additional FUN.

There is no overkill in DF.

Only in DF, upon being told that someones defensive system involves dropping a mountain onto the enemy, can you say "It's good but it needs more."

fill the mountain with magma, THEN drop it.

depending on your tastes, you could fill top z layers with water, to encase in obsidian enemyes ( or dwarves) who died in the cave in or burnt in the magma.

Like a creme egg, only it burns people alive.

Thief:"Quiet kitty, Qui-"
Cat:"THIEF! Protect the hoard from the skulking filth!"
The resulting party killed 20 dwarves, crippled 2 more and the remaining 9 managed to get along and have a nice party.

due to the lack of magma,i have upgraded to two mountains, plus a few large hills.

it's gonna kill my FPS, but it'll be worth it

Fill it with water, just for the hell of it. And to be honest, unearthing HFS is a greater hit on the FPS than even the biggest cave-in. At least on my poor laptop, that is. HFS degenerated into 1 fps for about 10 minutes, while a cave-in 12 z-lvls tall only froze the thing for 2 or 3 minutes.

And it definitely needs some additional flare. Maybe trap several useless goblin prisoners of war in the mountains, so you can shower the goblins with death AND dead. Fun stuff.

hmm. fill it with booze and a caged SoF. The mountain falls, the beast is released for a second as the cage is destroyed, the booze explodes, the things die.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

The closest thing to overkill would be flattening the world, then flooding it with magma. But even that seems to be lacking...

It's missing something. Specifically that your entire fortress is not contained within said mountain. Fix that, add magma, then it'll be done.
