I laughed until I cried.
The best part of this game is the players.
Thats 40% of why I play DF.

20% combat system
30% content
10% megaprojects

I turned bottomless pit to gigantic drown trap, letting it fill from the aquifer up top, it takes it over year to fill to full, i still havent been able to use it at full power as my goblin test subjects decided to arrive during winter when its half frozen, but it still obliterated anything on its path, all 10 z levels of trader entrance and anything unfortunate enough to be inside, god its slow to reload tho, gotta design faster reloading system for reuse more than once a year  ;D

NEEDS MOAR MAGMA!!!!

Fill half of it with magma then have another section filled with water, keep the two seperate so when it falls it acts like a nuke, bit explosion then loads of dust (obsidian) killing everything.

Idea! Combine your frozen water trap with the mountain dropping!  Drop a creatable glacier on the goblins.  Constructed ice can't be filled with magma can it?

As a faster reload mechanism you could always designate it a pong and have your dwarves go down via stairs to fill it up.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Idea! Idea!

IF you're on a frozen map, you could drop them into a pit that is only 1 or 2 Z-levels deep, so they don't die.

During the spring, or whenever the ice melts, designate the pit as a pond. But remove the pond designation once the water is like 3/7 so the captives don't drown.

Come winter, the pond freezes over. And you've got your prisoners encased in ice.

Mmm, Elf popsicles... I think that would be a delicacy...

Yeah i solved the reload problem, its still slow as hell but i started on new map now and after YEARS of filling its finally reaching maximum power! And can be reused almost instantly now as drain is minimal due its sheer size, cant wait to try it on next goblin siege unfortunate enough to attack when its fully recharged, theyre gonna get it good ;D I added nice pumping mechanism to top so it can charge much fuller than my last setup, its gonna flood all way to surface  now.

It's functional. you can reload the trap by digging out the lowest level of the mountain and adding a support.

The closest thing to overkill would be flattening the world, then flooding it with magma. But even that seems to be lacking...
... and the only reason that is due to technical limitations of the game not transferring magma from one map to another...it just vanishes.  You also cannot build off another building on a neighboring map.  I've always wanted to try to build up a huge pumping operation to flood the map, then go to adventure to see if it works...but I keep forgetting to try.

Pumps will deconstruct when you abandon.

I do have an idea of how to flood the entire world with magma though and I'm working on it right now.

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

1-Create a building over a single support, only 1 room.
2-Create a moat under it, leaving only the ground tile the support is at.
3-Construct a magma-safe atom-smasher drawbridge inside.
4-Put some tame lions/war dogs/hippos/elephants inside.
5-Put some booze barrels inside.
6-Drop prisoners inside.
7-Let your beasts maul them to oblivion.
8-Before everyone dies, flood the room with magma.
9-Watch as the booze barrels boil and explode.
10-Atom-smash everything.
11-Pull the level that destroys the single support holding the room.
12-Watch the glorious cave-in.
13-Watch as the magma falls into the moat encasing everything in obsidian.
14-????
15-Profit!

This is the single most dwarfy thing i've thought of in ages.

Instead of making the mountain fall on the invaders, how about you make the invaders fall on the mountain!

First you would make a stea--oh wait air pressure isn't in yet.  I'll tell you later.
