EDIT:A polar bear helped me fix both population problems.MANLY!

2: Train babies in war.
3: Repel the demonic cannibal horse menace with war babies.
4: Reclaim the overland arctic cactus forest.
5: Cut down said forest.
6: Wallow in the sheer wealth of wood after 20 years of doing without.

This is by far my most interesting fortress to date.

Short-term:
- House the migrant wave.
- Kill the nobles.
- Get moar steel.
- Get the two squads' worth of gear hauled.
- Find more copper ores for bins/barrels.
- Finish recycling the iron ore brought to me as a tribute by the goblins, and power up the newer smelters.
- Build A Better Noble Killer. In the chasm, so it works better. Or perhaps just off the trade depot to drown the buggers.

Long-term:
- Get moar wood.
- Equip military with steel plate and weapons.
- Maybe dispose of all the copper armour I made as an emergency solution.
- Find more iron ore. There was one vein, there's gotta be more!
- More forges.
- Lay out a proper tomb area.

Short term :
- check if there's a goblin civ nearby to provide ambushes and fun (forgot to do that at the embark screen, was way too happy for having found a suitable location after 30+ worlds)
- if so, kill lots and lots of goblins
- if not, either :
a) flood the whole fortress with magma from an overhead reservoire or
b) cave-in the entire thing, just for the hell of it.

There isn't such a thing as a long-term goal in my book

Short term goals:
Finish the magma bath/shower for goblins.
More tombs/cheap houses.
Smelt down the 3 clusters of magnetite, and use the iron.
More steel.
Melt metal object /R

Mid-term goals:
Convert old workshop area into cheap housing with walls.
Make a garbage disposal mechanism, or just a deep pit with magma in it.
Bring in the cloth bins left behind by elf caravan #16
Find a use for 67 goblin skulls.

Long term goals:
Bring a dwarf up to legendary axedwarf using only the arena, no sparring.
Luxury housing for the legendaries.
Redo tombs for important dwarves(Not the nobles)
A tomb for every dwarf.
Cleaning up the socks laying around.
Make a labyrinth/maze under the fort to drop goblins in, test out creativity with pressure plate traps.

I guess this is what I've got going on.

1: Kill off the Undead Siegers
2: Finish building the Hall of Heroes
3: Extend walls to protect recent extensions
4: Enlarge Waterfall Pits to avoid drowning passing Dwarves

For my long-term (boring) fort:

-Clean up the pile of goblin items
-See if I can remove every rock from the inside of the fort
-Engrave every square inch of the fort


Otherwise
-start a new fort in an awesome location with magma and some sort of wildlife (possibly undead) menace.

- Finish engraving the Great Tombs of Heroes, a 5 z-level tall/deep complex containing tombs for the current and future captain of the guard(s).
- Create a massive fountain in front of my fort to greet goblins/give dwarves some work to do.
- Finish the Pit Tower, a 17 z-level high tower meant for pushing things down.
- Possibly extend said tower 15 z-levels down.
- Create moar tombs, the population is at 229 dwarves right now (!!!).
- More bedrooms, there's only 110 rooms up for grabs, with the lack of work the normal peasant won't be pleased with a legendary barracks to sleep in =/
- Maybe roof over the outdoor courtyard.

6. Do 2, 5, and 4 again, in that order, but on the goblin towers again
7. Laugh
8. Sail towards the sunset

(Those damn gobbos deserve it, this time, more than the elves. They almost ceased our production.)

Added note: The barrel for the rhesus macques would even have a red logo of 12 of them in a ring.
