You know, a magma-activated pressure plate and a long channel, just opened to the magma sourse as you abandon, could serve as a timer for a destruct mechanism, placing a limit on how long he has to get in ot disable it, although you'd have to be careful to insure he can't turn it off too easily, and that he has a reasonable amount of time(but not too much!  ;D ).

Water could also be used for a faster timer.

A wooden support holding up the vault, being burned by magma?

Hey. Does that work? I know SoFs can burn wooden supports, can magma?

I'm impressed with Sizlik's. I do see a way of breaking in, but that'll take a WHILE.

I think that's because SoF's have building destroyer. I don't know how magma reacts with buildings.

I'm still hard at work on my vault! Though I'm distracted by the DM challenge as well. I've just finished carving out and sealing off several large rooms which will make up the bulk of the entrance way to the vault. Things are moving on swimmingly. I'm a whole 6 or 7 years (I think) into construction. No casualties yet, lots of injuries though.

Would it work on Dwarf difficulty?

Also, are you there Dakira?

I know that magma WILL burn wooden pillars. It'll melt any non-magma-safe building (distinguished from a construction).

I have an idea, but I'm not sure how to implement it, or even if it's possible:

Step 1: Embark in an area with no infinite water, but low drainage, high rainfall, and magma pipe. The more pools the better.
Step 2: Build vault on bottom of pipe, then make it connected only by 1-wide ground tiles. (Can it work? Cookie if you can get it to work.)
Step 3: Channel out all tiles of "murky pool" to prevent any more water from accumulating. Get rid of excess water.
Step 4:  ???
Step 5: PROFIT

I know that magma WILL burn wooden pillars. It'll melt any non-magma-safe building (distinguished from a construction).

That invites the construction of a fort supported by wooden pillars, and containing magma (Inner shell with the award inside of it inside the inside...) so that when you break open the box, the magma comes out, kills the uthur and burns the pillar.

Using magma to destroy a pillar that could be operated by a lever is pushing into Rube Goldberg territory, but not that there's anything wrong with that.

When I get my new computer, I'll do some experiments as to where the reclaiming wagon starts. That'll help for many vault designs. I have an idea for a design that would be incredibly hard to crack at the first reclaim and incredibly easy at the next one. We'll see...
