I've been trying for quite some time to find an IRC client that actually works. It seems that even though they've been working for more than a decade, no programmer has succeeded in making a IRC client.
Perhaps it's because they want to put all kinds of trash features, filling three quarters of the screen with various image things and file transfers and I don't know what.
I don't want any of that. What I want is: an IRC client. What I want is this:
[09:04] <PTTG> MAN I hate IRCs. I could write a better protocal for telnet.
[09:09] <PTTG> In theory, anyway.
[09:09] <PTTG> Well, actually not.
[09:09] <PTTG> But the UI for these clients could use a lot of work!
[09:10] <PTTG> All you need to tell it is what server and what- what is it, room? you want to be in, and the password for that room.
[09:11] <PTTG> And they bury all that in two separate interfaces and put a command-line in the way.
[09:13] <PTTG> In PttIRC you start it up and in ONE window, you have four boxes and three buttons: Network, 'Room', password, and port(optional).
[09:15] <PTTG> The buttons are: Connect, Advanced, and Cancel. And in that order, too. These whipper-snapper programmers think it's funny to get the button order backwards.
[09:16] <PTTG> It's "OK" on the left, "Cancel" on the right. I shouldn't have to read each one to figure it out!
[09:16] <PTTG> And get off my lawn, you punks!
Yes, a pop-up and a text display. Every line of code for something else is a waste of time.
What IRC client do you people use?
