I'm leaving on a train!
« on: July 16, 2009, 07:44:04 pm »

I have to be awake in less than eight hours! It's a 320ish mile trip by cab, train, and bus. It's the most complicated journey I'll have been on recently, and the only very long one I've done completely alone.

I'm just hoping I catch the bus in time.

I'll be leaving early Friday and be back late Monday.

Anyone have any advice for long trips like this? I doubt the train is going to have a power outlet and wi-fi access for my laptop. Ish going to be boring as hell.

If by some miracle there's a power outlet and internet access, maybe I'll find Best Train Crashes on Youtube, in lieu of a laser-pointer that I lack. :D

Couple of books (Red Storm Rising, or Ender's Shadow).

If you own a SNES, get an emulator for it.

I still haven't rebeat Super Mario RPG!

Laptop and Dwarf Fortress.

Seriously, shame on you. I'm betting you haven't started up the damn thing since late June of 2007.

Still haven't rebeat it?! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!

Other great games to play by emulator:

Umihara Kawase
Fire Emblem 4: Genealogy of the holy war (aka, Fire Emblem 4: Seisen No Keifu)
Final fantasy 4, 5, & 6
Aladdin

Although there's a number of great games.

Also try some freeware games, like Obake, or Spelunky.

Bring a friend and reminisce about your dwarfly adventures and laugh about how the cake was never really a lie. *Sigh* It's a shame people are so unexcepting of GLaDOS.

Start writing a train version of "I'm on a boat"

I'm adamant that game is impossible to beat without having a controller. There are some jumping sections(Specifically in Bowers tower) that require a run + jump that keyboards won't recognize.

 Tales of Phantasia
 EVO the Search for Eden
 Terranigma
 Soul Blazer

A good roguelike would also do you well.
Phun for something to play around with.
And now I just realized most of my freeware games are multiplayer exclusive.

I beat the game with only a keyboard, and my keyboard only recognizes three keypresses at a time.

For other freeware games, try Yahtzee Croshaw's adventure games he has on his site. The Defoe Qaudrilogy is very good, and it's just appropriately lengthed that you could probably beat them in the time of a train ride.

DF tends to be a pretty big drain on battery.
