Video did not work out.
Turns out SoF's do not path to Goblins when they can get loose inside my Carping residential area.

Look, up in the Sky!
Its a bird, its a plane!
No! Its Death From Above!

I think pathing for flying creatures is a bit buggy. I've had giant eagles just sit in midair not moving (much) for months or even years), even when other creatures or my dwarves effectively walk under them.

Good news!

The elves just showed up.

Gonna leave a recruit as bait.

Down to maybe 30 working dwarves.

Yes they really do fly.

This one time, they ambushed my adventurer from above.

You DO realize that the elves won't stand a chance due to the fact of...ummm....Wooden weaponry?

And wooden weapons sorta are flammable.

But for a brief moment those elves get to wield flaming swords o' doom!

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

The SoFs have brutally and quickly dispatched the elves.

The best part is that the Elves were chilling in my Trade Depot, when BOOM OH YEAHHHH, the SoFs come bursting through the floodgates that trapped the Elves in the Depot in the first place.

I currently have 7 dwarves remaining, 3 are crippled, 1 is insane, and 3 are healthy.
Gonna dump a lake on the spirits as the approach the front door.

Oh, and there seems to be a tame fluffy wambler on fire wandering about.

The only thing left to do is lock as many of the remaining dwarves as you can into a giant stockpile of booze and await the impending SoF fueld booze explosion of doom.

Good luck with the lake - SoFs are so hot, they vaporize 7/7 water at 2 tiles away.

You can try it with a SoF adventurer and a good CPU - you can walk across the ocean floor like some demonic Moses. 2-tile wide bubble all around you.

So, as I said: Good luck!

Yeah, that really bothers me. Being as they are balrog rip-offs, they ought to be possible to put out, at which point they make for the outdoors so that they can burst into flame in the sunlight again.
Also, they shouldn't be able to fly, because everybody knows balrogs don't have wings. ;)

crap. you need to make a staff and assign one of your dwarves to the bad-arse wizardry labour. He can take care of the SoFs, and although he might appear to die, he'll come back later as a legendary +5 wizard :D
