Day 5, Turn 14: Order:Dragnar (1!,3!), Reece (4!,6!), Dwareet'ik (1!,4!), the goblin (6!), Ajax (4!,2!); New order: The goblin, Reece, Ajax, Dwareet'ik, Dragnar
(Luck:5!)(#(d4)2!+1) The three of you prepare yourselves as the zombies approach. Reece insists you make a stand in the doorway, just in case 'there's a whole horde of 'em'. As they begin to approach you realize that it is, in fact, only three of them. They look to be elf zombies, in very poor shape. Reece takes the point, intent on using his new metal sword to maximum advantage. He hands the goblin the iron dagger taken from him initially and the two smaller figures take up flanking position on the human. Reece has a moment of panic when he realizes he's let a kobold and a goblin watch his back, but soon the 'horde' of zombies appears in the doorway and the battle is joined.
The goblin holds back, waiting for an opportune moment.
Reece takes the battle to them as the three zombies fill the broken doorway. (Attack:6!,3!) (Dodge:4!) (Location:5!) (Damage:2!) His blow clips the zombie in the arm and does little damage but sends the zombie spinning around. (-1 to zombie attack) (Attack:4!) (Dodge:1!) (Location:1!) (Damage:5!) His second blow impales the zombie in the torso, piercing internal organs.
Dwareet'ik attacks a zombie as well, drawing one of them away from the human. (Attack:6!,4!) (Dodge:6!,5!) But his powerful blow is dodged by the zombie as it lurches towards him. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:3!) (Location:1!) (Damage:4!-1(STR)) His second blow strikes the zombie in the torso, knocking it back a bit.
Zombie 1 attack Reece. (Attack:4!-1) (Dodge:1!-1) (Location:5!) (Damage:6!,6!) The zombie gets in a lucky shot and takes a hefty bite out of the human's arm. (Armor use:1!) Unfortunately for Reece the arm is unprotected and it is now wounded, with a large chunk missing.
Zombie 2 attacks Reece. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:6!,1!) (Luck:1!) Unbalanced by the first zombies attack Reece stumbles back, dodging out of the way of the other zombie but tripping himself in the process and falling.
Zombie 3 attacks Dwareet'ik. (Attack:2!) It misses the kobold.
The goblin sees the opening and attacks zombie 1 with his dagger. (Attack:2!-2) (Attack:2!-2)His blows miss.
Reece stands, lunging out at his opponent. (Attack:5!-1(standing)) (Dodge:1!) (Location:2!) (Damage:4!) His sword slices into the zombies left arm this time, cutting into rotting flesh. (Attack:1!) His second swing flies wide.
Dwareet'ik lashes out with his staff. (Attack:5!) (Dodge:2!) (Location:4!) (Damage:2!) His staff strikes the zombie in the right leg, knocking it out from under it and toppling it to the ground. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:5!-1(prone)) The zombie moves out of the way of the second swing.
Zombie 1 attacks Reece. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:5!-1) But Reece manages to deflect the blow at the last second.
Zombie 2 attacks. (Attack:2!) And misses.
Zombie 3 stands up again.
The goblin says a prayer to Snong. (Pray:5!) He invokes his demoness patron powerfully and attacks. (Attack:1!-1) But as he goes to do so a voice intones in his head, surprising him. (see PM) He is surrounded by a brief black glow and cries out in pain. His wounded arm begins to knit but it's obviously painful in the extreme.
Reece brings his sword down at zombie 1 in a scything motion. (Attack:5!) (Dodge:4!) (Location:4!) (Damage:4!) It cuts into the zombies right leg deeply, removing a chunk of flesh and exposing bone. (Attack:6!,3!) (Dodge:1!) (Location:1!) (Damage:1!) His reversal nicks the zombies torso a little.
Dwareet'ik swings again at the zombie he is fighting. (Attack:1!) But his swing goes wide as the zombie stands lurchingly. (Attack:5!) (Dodge:6!,6!) The zombie dodges with amazing speed, putting it in a better position to strike.
Zombie 1 attacks Reece. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:2!-1) (Location:2!) (Damage:1!) (Armor:6!,5!) Reece rolls into it, deflecting the blow to his arm with his laquered platemail.
Zombie 2 attacks Reece. (Attack:6!,4!) (Dodge:6!-1) (Location:4!) (Damage:6!,2!) (Armor:4!) The second zombie catches the human by surprise and he almost manages to jump out of the way but the zombie catches him in the leg badly scratching him. Fortunately his leather pants took the brunt of it, tearing in the process. (Destroying them. Since they were XX already)
Zombie 3 attacks the kobold. (Attack:3!+1) (Dodge:1!+1) (Location:1!) (Damage:3!) The zombie catches the kobold in the chest with a hefty blow, bruising him badly.
The goblin attacks with newfound confidence. (Attack:1!-1) But he still misses. (Attack:3!-1)
Reece swings at the zombie. (Attack:6!,4!) (Dodge:3!) (Location:1!)(Damage:3!,6!,1!) His sword catches the zombie in the torso, cutting into it deeply and severing the zombie in two.
Dwareet'ik strikes! (Attack:4!) (Dodge:2!) (Location:2!) (Damage:3!) His blow hits the zombie in the left arm hard. (Attack:6!,2!)(Dodge:3!)(Location:2!)(Damage:2!) His second swing hits the zombie in the left arm again, doing little more than the first time.
Zombie 2 attacks Reece. (Attack:3!)(Dodge:1!-1)(Location:5!)(Damage:5!)(Armor:4!) The second zombie claws at the human and strikes him in the arm but Reece is able to block some of the damage with his armor. Still, the blow badly injures his arm and his sword clatters to the ground.
Zombie 3 attacks Dwareet'ik. (Attack:2!) But misses.
The goblin attacks the zombie. (Attack:2!) (Attack:5!) (Dodge:1!)(Location:5!)(Damage:3!) His blow finally lands, stabbing the creature in the right arm. It doesn't seem to do too much damage though.
Reece scoops up his sword from the ground and uses it, awkwardly in his off hand. (Attack:4!-2) The swing misses.
Dwareet'ik lashes out at the zombie he is fighting still. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:6!,2!) (Attack:2!) The zombie dodges yet again and the kobold is so flustered that he misses the second time entirely.
Zombie 2 attacks. (Attack:2!)
Zombie 3 attacks. (Attack:1!)
The goblin lunges again, trying to knock over the zombie. (Attack:6!,2!)(Dodge:5!)(Location:2!)(Damage:2!) But he is unable to do so, instead scoring another hit on the zombies left arm.
Reece swings awkwardly at the undead. (Attack:1!-2)(Attack:1!-2) But his swings go wide and he drops the sword again when it strikes the doorframe.
Dwareet'ik strikes also. (Attack:2!) (Attack:2!) But has no more luck than the human, at least, in terms of hitting the undead.
Zombie 2 attacks Reece. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:4!-1)(Location:1!)(Damage:1!) The zombie lands a weak hit on the human but his plate protects him from harm.
Zombie 3 attacks the kobold. (Attack:5!)(Dodge:1!)(Location:3!)(Damage:3!) The blow hits the kobold in the left leg, bruising it badly.
The goblin continues his assault. (Attack:6!,1!)(Dodge:6!,4!) His blow nearly hits but the zombie dodged at the last second. (Attack:4!)(Dodge:5!) His second blow also fails to hit.
Reece, frustrated and wounded grabs his sword again from off the floor and tries yet again. (Attack:6!-2)(Dodge:2!)(Location:3!)(Damage:1!) His blow lands, but weakly on the zombies left leg.
Dwareet'ik swings as well. (Attack:1!)(Attack:1!) But in the melee he strikes the wall as well, the reverbereation knocking his weapon from his numbed hands.
Zombie 2 attacks the human. (Attack:5!)(Dodge:5!-1)(Location:3!)(Damage:6!,2!) The zombie claws viciously at the human, catching him in the leg with a hefty blow, raking the limbs with it's claws and removing the tatters of leather protecting him. The wound is bleeding freely.
Zombie 3 attcks the kobold. (Attack:4!)(Dodge:2!+1)(Location:3!)(Damage:6!,2!) The other zombie manages to pounce on the poor kobold, getting a grip on his leg and chomps down on it, tearing a piece away. The leg, now badly injured collapses under the strain, dropping the kobold to the floor.
The goblin continues to attack the zombie. (Attack:2!-1)(Attack:1!-1) My goodness, it seems like the goblin can't hit the broad side of a dark fortress today.
Reece does his best to strike a decisive blow. (Attack:4!-1)(Dodge:1!)(Location:1!)(Damage:2!) Another weak blow lands on the zombie who shrugs it off. (Attack:4!-1)(Dodge:3!)(Location:6!)(Damage:3!) The second swing clips the zombie on the side of the head, shearing off one cheek and removing an ear. But what are such things to the undead.
Dwareet'ik does his best to fend off the zombie or likewise cripple it with his staff. (Attack:4!)(Dodge:3!)(Location:4!)(Damage:3!) His blow strikes the zombie in the right leg, possibly popping a few ligaments. (Attack:5!)(Dodge:6!,6!) The zombie avoids the second blow, preparing to pounce atop the prone kobold. (+1 to attack)
Zombie 2 attacks Reece. (Attack:4!)(Dodge:6!-1) But the human manages to dodge the blow.
Zombie 3 attacks Dwareet'ik. (Attack:1!+1) The zombie slips on the stone and can't find good purchase to pounce.
The goblin swings wildly. (Attack:4!-1)(Dodge:6!,3!) But the zombie is able to dodge the blow. (Attack:5!-1)(Dodge:2!)(Location:1!)(Damage:6!,2!) The second blow catches the zombie in the rear lower torso, stabbing up and in. The blow would likely have been fatal to a mortal opponent. Even an undead one is not match for having his rib-cage torn open though and the blow leaves the internal organs hanging out of the massive gash on one side of the torso. The zombie now lists to one side.
Reece attacks as well. (Attack:2!-1)(Attack:5!-1)(Dodge:6!,1!) But his blows are either ineffective or avoided.
Dwareet'ik tries to fend off the zombie from his prone position. (Attack:6!,3!)(Dodge:6!,4!) He swings, causing the zombie to back up a step to avoid the blow but it looks as ready as ever to pounce.
Zombie 2 attacks the human. (Attack:4!)(Dodge:4!)(Location:4!)(Damage:2!) A swipe of the putrid hand catches Reece in the right leg yet again.
Zombie 3 springs at the kobold. (Attack:5!)(Dodge:2!)(Location:1!)(Damage:1!) The zombie lands on the kobold, grappling with him and bruising his torso a little.
The goblin continues his assault. (Attack:5!-1)(Dodge:4!)(Location:2!)(Damage:1!) (Attack:1!) His first swing only glances off the zombies elbow, doing minimal damage and the second swing goes wild.
Reece does his best to rally the group and score a decisive hit. (Attack:6!,5!)(Dodge:6!,5!)(Location:4!)(Damage:3!) He pours his rage into a swing and the zombie nearly dodges it. (ties always fall in Player favor, unless you're Unlucky) But the longsword clips the zombie in the right leg, tearing into the thigh. (Attack:3!)(Dodge:1!)(Location:6!)(Damage:1!) His second swing clips the zombie in the head, practically scalping the creature.
The kobold does his best to break the grip of the zombie on top of him. (Dwareet'ik:2!-1)(Zombie:2!) (Dwareet'ik:1!-1)(Zombie:3!) But fails to do so.
Zombie 2 attacks Reece. (Attack:2!) The zombie misses.
Zombie 3 bites Dwareet'ik. (Grappled) (Location:2!) (Damage:4!) The zombie's teeth sink into the kobold arm as he raises it to protect his face and neck.
The goblin, seeing the zombie flagging attacks again. (Attack:5!)(Dodge:4!)(Location:5!)(Damage:4!) His blade severs some important tendons on the arm and it begins flopping uselessly at the zombie's side. (Attack:2!) His second blow misses.
Reece, very much annoyed, swings at the zombie. (Attack:5!)(Dodge:2!)(Location:5!)(Damage:2!) Reece's blow finally managed to sever the already useless right arm of the zombie and it flies off into the darkness. (Attack:1!)
His second swing goes wide.
Dwareet'ik struggles to free his arm from the zombie's bite. (Dwareet'ik:3!-1)(Zombie:2!) The kobold tears his arm out of the zombies mouth and tries to push the creature off of him. (Dwareet'ik:2!-1)(Zombie:6!,2!) The zombie shifts his position a little giving him an advantage. (+1 to grapples)
Zombie 2 attacks the human. (Attack:6!-1)(Dodge:1!-1)(Location:6!)(Damage:4!) The zombie clocks Reece in the head, setting his ears ringing and he sees stars.
Zombie3 grapples with the kobold again. (Attack:6!,1!+1)(Dwareet'ik:1!-1)(Location:3!)(Damage:5!) The zombie instead clamps down on the kobolds left leg, tearing into the wounded limb. It is mangled. The kobold is in pain. (Pain resistance:6!-1) The kobold manages to stay concious.
The goblin, dagger in hand, pounces on the zombie elf. (Attack:3!-1)(Attack:5!-1)(Dodge:4!)(Location:5!-bypass) (Damage:3!) The blow passes through the remains of the arm and cuts into the torso, severing the spinal cord and the zombie drops to the ground in an oozing pile of decaying flesh. The goblin grins in triumph.
Reece turns to help the kobold. (Attack:3!-1) (Attack:6!-1)(Dodge:3!-1)(Location:2!)(Damage:6!,5!) His first blow glances off the zombies back but the second cleanly cuts the zombie's arm off at the elbow spraying the kobold in a wash of undead gore.
Dwareet'ik, seeing his opponent now at a disadvantage tries to free himself. (Dwareet'ik:5!-1)(Zombie:6!-1) (Dwareet'ik:4!-1)(Zombie:3!-1) The kobold struggles against the undead and finally manages to free his leg but is unable to shift the undead on top of him.
Zombie 3 in a frenzy attacks the kobold underneath him. (Attack:4!-1)(Dodge:2!(bonus and penalties cancel out))(Location:4!)(Damage:2!) The zombie claws at the kobolds other leg, trying to get at the tasty, tasty flesh.
The goblin pauses, looking like he's considering letting the zombie eat the kobold. If he attacked the human from behind and killed him, it's possible the zombie would kill the kobold, but, he reasons, that would still leave him wounded to fight the zombie. And there was always the dwarf as well. He sighs and goes to attack the zombie, but it's without zeal. (Attack:4!-1)(Dodge:3!-1)(Location:5!)(Damage:4!) Trying the same trick the goblin attacks the remaining good arm, cutting into flesh.
Reece hacks at the undead on the kobold as well. (Attack:2!-1) (Attack:5!-1)(Dodge:4!-1)(Location:1!)(Damage:6!,3!) His first blow misses terribly but the second is more measured, scything into the zombie from the side and cleaving the torso in half in a shower of blood and gore. The zombie pieces collapse in a pile on top of the kobold who suddenly finds himself awash in undead gore. But the foe is defeated and except for your heavy breathing, silence descends again.
All three of you are injured and Reece helps the kobold up and moves him to one side. His leg is badly injured, as is the humans arm and the goblin's arm as well. Reece, you are almost literally starving now. Keep that in mind. You need to eat.
The goblin gains +10 dagger exp., +2 sword exp., 2 divine favor.
Reece gains +18 sword exp., +3 Dodge exp. and +3 Armor use exp.
Dwareet'ik gains +6 Staff exp. and +2 Unarmed combat exp.
Your wound statuses are up to date. Dwareet'ik, your leg is, quite literally, mangled and chewed upon. Moving will cause you extreme pain at the moment.
As you're perusing the goods and about to examine an item you hear the ladder drop down behind you, causing you to jump. By the time you get turned around it seems the dwarf is already down it and standing there next to you in the depot. (Reaction:5!) Flustered you bow deeply, not really knowing what the proper protocol is and you're really doing your best to not describe the place as 'quaint'. The dwarf seems reasonably pleased and you begin looking over the goods. Idly you pick up the trinket you were about to examine earlier. (Appraise:4!) Looking at it, it's a masterfully crafted stone boat, almost as long as your forearm. It looks like it's a clipper ship and is complete with moveable rudder and sails. You're pretty sure it'd float too. The sails appear to be a very finely smoothed leather and the 'ropes' are small strands of cave spider silk thread. The masts and, in fact, most of the banding and figures on it, are made out of bone. Some sort of bird from what you can tell. This item alone is worth more than everything you possess.
You carefully put it back down and ask about the possibility of getting a lantern. He leads you over to a table and shows you a pair of beautiful silver lanterns, ornately wrought and gilded in what looks to be rose gold, as well as decorated in bone. The upper panel shows a marvelously detailed scene of some dwarf fighting avar but you're not terribly big on history. You cough and shake your head, laying out your wares. The dwarf looks at them, then at you.
"Is that all ye got? No pack animal?"
"Well, no. You see, I was just passing through and since the gates were open I thought I'd check the place out. I'm a Hunter."
The dwarf nods his head as if in thought. He brings his own lantern up and places it before you, topping it off with a silver flask at his belt. The lantern is a simple copper one, unadorned and rather old and battered. One of the panes has been broken out but it's still quite functional. He says he'll take the bones, otter meat and raw hides in exchange for it. You consider trying to hold out for a better deal but it looks like he's already being fairly generous. Besides, you're new at this trading thing.
You shake on it and he hands you over the lantern.
(Favor:4!)
"Since you're here, are ye interested in a 'proposition' or two? Perhaps we can help each other out a bit."
He waits for your response.
