Day 4, Turn 16: Order:Dwareet'ik (1!,5!), Reece (6!,3!,1!), Ajax (1!,6!), Dragnar (6!,3!,3!); New Order: Dragnar, Reece, Ajax, Dwareet'ik (Monster:4! (So before Dwareet'ik but after Reece and Dragnar))
(Cook:6!,6!) You get a small cook fire going easily and while it begins to burn make yourself some nice spits for the meat. Soon it's roasting merrily and beginning to smell really really good. You keep rotating it slowly and since you have the time do your best to make sure the meat doesn't lose any of it's nice juices. They smell delicious. As good as your grandmother's cooking, if not better. She wasn't much into meat since she lost most her teeth. When they're perfectly done you slip them off the heat and let them cool for a bit. You decide you might as well tear into one of them and pick the most succulent looking. They'll never be this good again after all. You have a loaf of bread with it and they go well together, washing them down with water. Ahh... this is the life. And why, incidentally, you became a hunter. Your morale improves considerably.
You're stuffed! You couldn't eat another bite but it was sooooooo good.
You sit back and relax for a little while, perhaps longer than you should have and soon you feel yourself getting a little sleepy. You toss the chunk of intestine and whatnot towards the opening of your location, just past the traps, set your crossbow and get ready to rest. You take a look at the bones. They'd definitely work for making more bolts out of, but with your crude knife they'd be shoddy pieces of work and most likely wouldn't fly straight. (Significant penalty to hit) You settle down in the corridor and get ready to spend a night in relative comfort.
(+1 to detect ambush, +1 to avoid ambush) Gained 2 +Mountain goat roasts+, +2 Cooking exp.
(Observation check:Dwareet'ik:3!) The pounding continues as the kobold slips up to join the others and they quickly explain what is behind the door. The kobolds face screws up strangely for a second as if he misunderstood but then it dawns on him that there is a large undead beast on the other side of the door. Reece is busy holding it closed, but it's not working too well anymore with the lock destroyed. Dragnar is maintaining a spell. That only leaves the little kobold who's already tired and slightly encumbered to find and get stuff to help re-inforce the door. The only problem is, is that the door opens inward so piling up stuff in front of it would do nothing to help with the door, not that the kobold can find anything. He does his best to set up in a defensive position behind the other two.
He doesn't have to wait long before the cracks on the edge of the door begin to spread. Rapidly. Faster than any of you would have though and soon with a loud 'Crack!' the door shivers in it's frame and shatters in a cloud of dust and stone. Silence descends for a brief second as the monster realizes the barrier is no longer there and shuffles into view. It's large, and though it no longer has flesh on it's frame there is a tight skin on it that gleams dully in the fading torch-light. Even it's bones seems to have an odd lustre to them.
At the sight of the creature Dragnar takes initiative and releases his pent up spell towards it. The runes fly towards it like metal to a magnet. (Resistance roll:6!,4!) (Doesn't beat the 6!,6! from last turn Dragnar got, fortunately for you.) The runes look like they nearly bounced off of it's hide but then expand, forming a quickly growing net of runes before sinking into the creature and with a shriek it raises it's head and bellows. Little miniscule cracking can be heard as if someone were walking on ice.
Reece lunges out with his longsword at it. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:6!,5!) But the creature is too quick for you now and barrels into the two of you. (Dodge:Reece:2!, Dragnar 1!, Dwareet'ik 2!) In a massive rush the skeletal creature bowls into you, knocking dwarf and human into the kobold as the trio lands in a pile of limbs. It's in the short hall with you now and looks and smells worse up close than it did from far away. The monstrosity was heavier than expected for a pile of bones.
Dwareet'ik is the first to scramble up and away from the thing, detaching himself from the others and backing away slightly, now upright again.
Dragnar, and Reece pull themselves up as well and split directions, allowing attacks to come from all sides.
(Target:5! Natural inclination) The skeletal creature, as if realizing that the dwarf poses the greatest threat, or perhaps because of the abundance of metal he's carrying attacks him. (Attack:4!) (Dragnar Dodge:4!) (Tail attack:4!) (Dodge:5!) The creature lunges at him snapping with a bony maw but misses and a split second later it's tail lashes around but Dragnar nimbly manages to roll out of the way, bringing his massive sword to bear.
Dwareet'ik lunges in with a cry, attacking it with his staff. (Attack:6!,6!) (Dodge:6!,4!) (Location:4!) (Damage:3!,3!) The kobold lashes out, trying to break it's tail but the thing whips out out at Dragnar just as Dwareet'ik strikes. In a surprising display of staffkoboldship he cracks the thing in the rear right leg, striking it again a second time in the same place. The bones crack and the joint gets pulverized as the stone scepter comes down upon them. The creature stumbles but remains upright. It's mobility is hampered though.
Dragnar sees an opening and hacks down at it. (Attack:2!) But in the confusion he misses.
Reece likewise tries to stab at it with his longsword. (Attack:2!) But he fares no better.
The skeletal creature singlemindedly attacks the dwarf, trying to use it's bulk to pin him against a wall. (Attack:2!) But Dragnar slips off to one side.
Dwareet'ik again lashes out at it. (Attack:2!) but his blows bounce off this time, catching it at an angle.
Dragnar cuts at the thing from a side. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:1!) (Location:3!) (Damage:1!) His blow catches it in the rear leg, trying to cripple it, but the blow does little damage against the thing, causing his sword to ring slightly in his hands.
Reece does his best to help. (Attack:6!,2!) (Dodge:2!) (Location:3!) (Damage:1!) His blow strikes the leg from the other side, but the wood has as little effect as Dragnar's sword. It's looking a little battered but not much. (The leg, not the sword)
The monstrosity lunges again at Dragnar. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:5!) But the dwarf sidesteps. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:2!) (Location:2!) (Damage:4!) The tail comes in over the top and Dragnar is unprepared for it, taking a hit in the left arm, which hurts some. The tail is surprisingly moist and a slimy something coats where it hit. (Luck:2!) The blow struck your sword somewhat and you can see the substance beginning to damage the metal.
The little kobold lashes out again at the creature. (Attack:2!) But his blows go wide.
Dragnar (Luck:3!) annoyed at the creature damaging his weapon attacks it savagely. (Attack:6!,4!) (Dodge:4!) (Location:4!,5!) (Damage:6!,3!) His blow catches the skeletal rust monster in the front right leg, scything it out beneath it and damaging it badly in the process. The creature falls to the ground.
Reece, seeing it fall takes advantage of the opportunity. (Attack:1!+1) But his blow bounces off the creatures hide.
The creature tries to rise (action:1!) but is unable to. It tries to lash out with it's tail again. (Attack:4!-1) (Dodge:1!) (Location:5!) (Damage:1!) The tail strikes Dragnar again in the right arm, but only weakly, doing little damage. (Luck:5!) He manages to avoid getting any more goo on his weapon.
Dwareet'ik swings his scepter. (Attack:5!) (Dodge:6!-1(prone)) (Location:4!,2!) (Damage:2!) His blow catches it in the left front leg, damaging it slighly.
Dragnar attacks again at the downed creature. (Attack:5!) (Dodge:2!) (Location:4!,3!) (Damage:2!) His blow comes down on the creatures left leg as well, and the joints pop and groan as the blade strikes the leg.
Reece lunges at the thing, determined to score a hit. (Attack:6!,5!) (Dodge:1!-1) (Location:6!) (Damage:6!,4!,6!,1!+1) The sword comes down in a savage arc, and whether through luck or skill finds s crack between the vertebre behind the skull that was unprotected. With the savage weight only the human could bring upon it the head severs from the body and the thing almost instantly collapses into a pile of bones on the floor.
The hall is quiet again, but occasional groans and sounds can be heard as if from a great distance.
Dragnars sword is rapidly corroding. Check hunger/thirst status and I'd like to know from you three where you plan on spending the night. Dwareet'ik, you're tired. I should have given you penalties this combat, but forgot until afterwards. So, consider it the adrenaline of the situation. Let me know what precautions you are taking and I'll try to get the night turn done tomorrow.
+4 Dodge exp, +5 Sword exp for Dragnar
+4 Staff exp. for Dwareet'ik
+3 Sword exp., 1 kill for Reece
