Day 3, Turn 12: Order: Reece (4!), Dwareet'ik (3!), Cius (6!); New order: Cius, Reece, Dwareet'ik
(For purposes of PVP battle I'll be doing both Cius and Dwareet'ik together this turn. I'll let Reece go first but the order determines initiative in PVP battle.)
(Observation check:4!) You search the area around the traps and see essentially nothing you could use to set them off. You find a small fragment of bone but it's certainly not heavy enough. Then you think back. There was a swamp out front you could easily get a log or something like that from. (Action:3!) You make your way back out to the swamp and take your sweet time picking out the perfect rotten log. Just large enough to be freakishly cumbersome and heavy and muddy enough to be extremely awkward to carry. Still, you manage to half drag, half carry it inside.
Eventually.
You get yourself in position and roll it/throw it at the traps in front of you. (Set off traps:4!) The log fwumps heavily on the stone and moves forward a little, you hear a very faint 'click' then a quite audible 'schick' as obsidian blades spring up from the floor, impaling the log and sending splinters and debris all over. (Luck:3!) You're not struck by any but in the ensuing maelstrom of splinters you almost forget why you tossed the log in the first place. You hurry forward past the line of traps just as the blades withdraw, stepping carefully.
(Trap avoid:2!-1 (Dodge penalty)) Unfortunately for you, you didn't realize there was a second row of traps and as you step forward past the weapon traps the ground suddenly gives way beneath you. (Luck:2!) You fall into a pit, lined with a cage. There are a few odd bones in here with you. You look up and realize that the cage is metal, Zinc in fact, and realize that it's beginning to close.
(Secret DM roll:6!)
You are about to be trapped.
DWAREET'IK VS. CIUS !!!!!!
(I'm trying to be very meticulous with my rolls as well as with application of bonuses and penalties as this is a PVP battle. That being said, I've no idea what will happen, so, let the fight begin. Let's make it clean. Or not...)
Cius, seeing the kobold and realizing the look of abhorrence on his face surely indicates he doesn't approve of the undead siezes the advantage of the moment and (Action:1!) commands the undead to attack the kobold. They stare at him and don't move.
Dwareet'ik invokes the name of his goddess and asks her blessing in turning the undead before him. (Invoke:4!+1 (good standing)) (Zombie rat resist:1!) (Skeletal rat resist:1!) The two undead turn and flee towards the corner of the room just behind Cius.
(Cius, you said rush him but you also said not to cross the traps. He's on the other side of them for now.)
Annoyed and very frustrated you grab at the (4!) Zombie Demon rat that is fleeing the kobold. (Attack on Zombie:4!) You grab ahold of the rotting carcass and in a fit of fury chuck the dog-sized undead creature at the kobold. (Throw:4!-1 (unskilled)) (Dodge Dwareet'ik:2!+1) (Opposed rolls:Cius:5!;Dwar:3!) (Location:4!) (Damage:2!/2) The spinning Zombie Large Demon rat strikes the kobold in the upper right leg. It is (bruised) Injured. They are knocked down. (That was your bad leg Dwareet'ik.) (Damage Zombie:(Location:6!) (Damage:6!,5!) The zombie's neck snapped upon collision and it's head fell off. It is dead. Again.
Dwareet'ik struggles to disentangle himself from the corpse and stands.
Cius grabs for the other undead creation, the skeleton. (Attack skeleton:3!) He nearly misses grabbing it as it has no flesh but finds a purchase on it and throws it too at the kobold. (Attack:4!-1 (unskilled)) (Dodge:2!+1) (Opposed rolls:Cius:2! Dwareet'ik:4!) The skeletal Demon rat sails through the air but at the last second the diminuative kobold manages to dodge to one side. (Location:6!) (Damage:5!*2 (frail)) The skeletal zombie demon rat crumples into the stone behind the kobold and does not move any more. Apparently it's head fell off as well.
Let that be a lesson to you. Never use undead as projectile weapons... their spines can't handle the stress of impact.
Dwareet'ik puffs out his chest and begins a strange little dance, shouting what sounds like gibberish to Cius' ears and he points repeatedly at the human. (Curse:1!) (Luck:4!+1) The curse missed the human entirely and bounced off the floor to strike one of the large glowing mushrooms, which suddenly fell to the floor with a earth-shaking thud, breaking in several pieces.
The two opponent's stare at each other briefly across the dimly torch-lit room before charging each other!
(Neither of you has range capable weaponry so that's how it's going to be.)
Cius, with his longer reach strikes out at the kobold. (Attack:6!-1 (weak)) (Dodge:2!+1) (Location:3!) (Damage:2!-1(weak)) He manages to trip the kobold, knocking it to the ground with a swift leg sweep. But the little creature resolutely stands again.
Cius attacks again. (Attack:5!-1) (Dodge:5!+1,6!) He swings at the kobold but it simply steps under his punch and dodges to one side, finding himself behind the human.
Dwareet'ik swing his staff at the human from behind. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:6!-1(racial)) Cius nimbly avoids the blow, surprisingly for one so large and injured. Dwareet'ik feels dejected he had to attack another, and intimidated. (-1 to rolls)
Cius attacks, lunging. (3!-1) But misses.
Dwareet'ik swings his staff again at the towering human. (Attack:5!-1) (Dodge:6!-1) The human sidesteps it, but just barely.
Cius punches at the kobold. (Attack:5!-1) (Dodge:6!-1+1,5!) The kobold dodges, putting himself in a favorable position to strike.
Dwareet'ik swings! (Attack:6!-1+1(position), 4!) (Dodge:2!-1) (Location:1!) (Damage:5!-1) The staff jabs out, catching Cius in the chest. It is badly wounded. You've broken some ribs. Breathing is harder.
Cius attacks! (4!-1) (Dodge:5!-1+1) But the kobold dodges him.
Dwareet'ik attacks back. (2!-1) He misses badly.
Cius lunges at the kobold. (Attack:6!-1) (Dodge:5!-1+1) (Opposed rolls: Cius:5! Dwareet'ik:4!) (Location:3!) (Damage:1!) He grabs your left leg, twisting. It is lightly wounded. You are grappled.
Dwareet'ik struggles to free himself from Cius' grasp. (Grapple:3!-1(weak); Cius:1!-1 (starving/weak)) The kobold breaks the grip.
(You're both prone)
Cius punches at the kobold. (Attack:2!) But misses.
Dwareet'ik tries to bite the human. (Attack:6!-1) (Dodge:3!-2(racial and prone)) (Location:2!) (Damage:1!) He sinks his teeth into the human's left arm. He is grappled.
Cius tries to break the kobold's bite. (Cius:2!-1; Dwareet'ik:5!-1) He fails to do so.
The kobold continues to bite him. (No attack/dodge roll needed. Location determined.) (Damage:2!) He continues to tear into the arm. It is wounded and bleeding. Mmmm... tastes like chicken Human.
Cius punches at the kobold with his other arm trying to free himself. (Cius:2!-1, Dwareet'ik:4!-1) He fails to do so.
Dwareet'ik continues to bite his arm. (Damage:6!,6!) He savagely tears off a large chunk of it, freeing himself in the process, landing on his rump a few feet away. The arm is mangled and useless and bleeding heavily. The kobold swallows the Human chunk, licking his blood covered teeth and lips with his little forked tongue.
Cius stands. (Luck:2!) He charges the kobold. Dwareet'ik rises to meet him. You are both tired. (-1 penalty to melee actions)
Cius attacks. (5!-2 (weak, tired)) (Dodge:1!+1-2 (morale, tired)) (Location:1!) (Damage:6!-1) Cius kicks the little kobold a staggering blow in the chest. His little ribs creak and groan. (Luck:1!+1) He is knocked backwards, but rises again.
In a seeming fury Cius attacks again. (Attack:6!-2) (Dodge:4!+1-2) (Location:2!) (Damage:2!-1) He punches the kobold in the left arm but connects only weakly.
The kobold lashes out. (Attack:4!-2) but misses.
Cius attacks again. (Attack:6!-2) (Dodge:5!+1-2) (Opposed rolls:Cius 5!,3!; Dwareet'ik 5!,5!) But the kobold manages to avoid the blow by a hair's breadth.
The kobold strikes. (Attack:3!-2) But misses.
Cius attacks. (Attack:5!-2) (Dodge:1!+1-2) (Location:1!) (Damage:3!-1) He catches the kobold in the chest again with a quick jab, knocking the wind out of him and breaking a rib in the process. (You're both in pain by the way.) (Dwareet'ik Luck:1!+1)
Dwareet'ik attacks. (Attack:6!-2) (Dodge:1!-2) (Location:6!) (Damage:6!,4!) His staff connects with Cius' head. Very solidly. (Cius resist:6!,4!) Cius is dazed, his head is bleeding badly.
Dwareet'ik takes advantage of the opening. (Attack:4!-2+2(opponent dazed)) (No dodge) (Location:2!) (Damage:1!-1) He strikes a glancing blow on Cius' left arm, but there's little more that can be done to hurt it. (Cius pain resistance:5!)
Dwareet'ik attacks again. (Attack:4!-2+2) (Location:3!) (Damage:6!-1) He connects soundly with Cius' left leg which was already injured. (Cius pain resistance:3!-1) The human collapses on the ground and passes out due to pain and head trauma.
(Attack rolls:5!,4!,4!,5!,6!) Cius has passed away. Official cause of death is blunt trauma inflicted by a kobold.
Dwareet'ik you sit weary, exhausted and wounded next to the fallen corpse of the evil human monk.
You are wounded, it is hard to breathe and your leg troubles you. But you are alive. Post your action for Turn 12.
Cius, condolances, but a great job on RP and character. Of course, this opens up another slot for play. I'll take care of details and stuff later today if I get a chance.
(Dwarmin you gain:+2 Invocation exp., +6 Dodge exp., +5 Staff exp., +5 Unarmed combat exp., You have gained +10 Fame for killing Cius)
