Your torch begins guttering and you realize that it will soon be extinguished. (This is the partially used one from the previous day.) (Observation check:5!) (Stealth:3!)(Detection, them:3!) As you approach the ruined remains of the old building you hear again some strange sounds coming from the direction of the hallway. You cautiously edge your way around the structure until you have a clear view of the passageway.
To your chagrin you see what appears to be a pair of zombie elves feasting on the corpses of the rats. The elves are in an advanced state of decay but you can see them tearing into the furry corpses easily enough. They don't appear to have seen you yet, or noticed you despite the light. They seem intent on feasting.
You skirt around the trade depot and pick up a few pieces of stone. Leery of fighting in the dark you quickly light another torch and stick it in the sandy soil behind you, carrying the other with you. You begin throwing the small stones to try and get one of them to notice you. (Lure:5!) (Luck:1!) (Secret DM roll:4!) You manage to hit the thing with some smaller pebbles and it swivels it's head to face you. Upon seeing you it emits an audible groan and begins heading your direction. You feel fortunate that the other is still busy feasting. You lure it somewhat around the corner of a pile of rubble before striking out at it with your torch.
(Attack:5!-1) (Dodge:1!) (Location:4!) (Damage:3!,3!) You strike it hard in the right leg as it comes to bear on you, hitting it with your torch. You jump back a bit and swing at it again. (Attack:5!-1) (Dodge:4!) (location:3!) (Damage:5!,5!) It nearly sidesteps your blow but you still manage to hit it. The blow catches it in the other leg and the torch explodes in a shower of sparks, sending it tumbling to the ground. It's rotten clothing begins burning for a second but it soon goes out again. Your torch is now gone.
It stands and makes for you but you're already backing out of range somewhat before lunging in again to strike at it.
(Attack:5!) (Dodge:3!) (Location:3!) (Damage:6!,1!) You bring your own leg in for a swift forward kick and connect solidly with it's left leg again and you hear bones break as the thing pitches onto the ground beneath you.
You try to stomp on it while it's down. (Attack:1!) You slip on a piece of slimy flesh that must have stuck to your foot though and miss, losing your balance for a bit.
The zombie claws at you from beneath. (Attack:6!,5!) (Dodge:1!) (Location:5!) (Damage:5!+1) It trips you and you fall heavily to the ground as it latches on to your right arm with it's left hand, digging fingers into your soft flesh. You are grappled.
You attempt to break it's grip. (Opposed checks:(You:2!)(Zombie 1:6!+1,5!+1)) You try to break free but it's grip is like iron and digs into your arm further. You feel like your arm is almost at the point of breaking but you know you must get this thing off of you and you try to spin around and plant a foot on it to get your arm free. (You:5!) (It:1!+1) The change in position is enough for you to leverage your arm free and you quickly do so.
The zombie continues it's assault upon your person. (Attack:4!) (You dodge:5!-1(prone)) But you barely manage to dodge it's blow and roll to one side. You use the momentum to come to your feet again. Looking at your arm you can still move your hand enough though it's painful, it's also sore and you can see the deep gouges in your forearm where it grabbed you. You're bleeding a little but it's superficial.
You move in again to kick the thing. (Attack:6!,5!) (Dodge:3!-1 (prone)) (Location:5!) (Damage:4!) Your swift kick hits it in the right arm and you can see it dislocate.
It struggles to crawl towards you and you see the other zombie appear around the edge of the depot moving towards you. It is the greater threat and much more mobile.
You move back some more circling the pile and the zombie (#2) shuffles around to engage you. It also allows you a little breather. Zombie 1 continues to drag itself towards you, albeit slowly.
As soon as you see an opening you strike at the zombie. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:4!) (Location:1!) (Damage:5!) You punch out swiftly catching the thing square in the torso and you feel a few ribs crack but the zombie doesn't seem to mind it too much. You try to hit it again. (Attack:6!,6!) (Dodge:3!) (Location:5!) (Damage:6!,2!) You see an opening and slide tackle into it, knocking it to the ground and putting it's arm in a lock, leaving it face-down. You twist and both hear and feel a snap as the zombie's arm shatters under the torsion. It is grappled.
It attempts to break free of your grip, oblivious to it's arm. (It:3!+1, You:4!) It wriggles around but doesn't manage to get free. It does manage to face you, however.
You try to take advantage of your hold. (Attack:4!) (Grappled, no dodge) (Location:2!) (Damage:1!) You grab it by the left arm and begin twisting.
You continue to twist. (Attack:5!) (Damage:6!) You feel it's bones beginning to break and maintain your grip.
It does it's best to twist free. (It:2!) (You:4!) But fails.
You continue to twist (Attack:1!) but it's arm slips in your grip, the rotten flesh helping it along. You try to grab it again. (Attack:3!) (Location:1!) (Damage:2!) You barely manage to grab it by the torso, punching it once swiftly as you do so.
It tries to break your grip and rise. (It:4!) (You:6!,6!) Instead you use it's momentum to propel it, using your grip, into the wall behind you, slamming it into the stone. (Damage:3!) (To chest) You hear more ribs break.
You stand again and advance on it, keeping an eye on the other one who, by now is beginning to approach again. You move towards the one you just tossed and kick out at it. (Attack:2!) But in your haste you miss as the thing tries to rise. You try to kick it again. (Attack:1!) As you do so it move again and you miss.
It tries to claw you. (Attack:5!) (Dodge:5!) But you nimbly dodge.
You steady yourself and attack it again. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:6!,6!) With near elvish grace it avoids your blow, rising to it's feet again.
You try to strike it while you have a chance. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:3!) (Location:3!) (Damage:5!) You kick it in the left leg heftily but it still stands. And attacks!
(Attack:6!) (Dodge:1!) You try to side step the blow but it catches you nonetheless. (Location:6!) (Damage:1!+1) It clips you in the head and you see stars for a bit. You are stunned. (1 round)
It attacks again, taking advantage of your distraction. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:1!-2 (stunned)) (Location:6!) (Damage:4!+1) It rakes you in the face with it's good hand knocking you down. You manage to clear your vision and shake your head but it is sore and throbs somewhat. You stand and back away from it, continuing to shake your head and put some distance between you and the other one.
When you've got some more clearance you lash out at it again, stubbornly. There seems to be a ringing in your ears you can't get rid of.
(Attack:1!) You swing at it but miss entirely. You try again. (Attack:6!,6!) (Dodge:4!) (Location:6!) (Damage:1!) Reciprocating it's blow you pop it in the face with a good punch but it doesn't seem bothered by it unduly.
It lunges at you. (Attack:4!) (Dodge:3!) (Location:6!) (Damage:6!+1, 3!+1) It brings it's arm to bear and you unwisely move directly into the blow, taking it in the face. You black out. (Luck:1!) (Secret DM roll:5!)
You do not awake. You are dead. You were knocked unconcious by a blow to the head and eaten alive by zombie elves.
(Hmm... sorry. But that was just incredibly bad luck there. I was sorely tempted to manipulate things a touch but decided against it. I'm afraid you are deceased. I'll update the board accordingly tomorrow.)
Mr. Person-
(Heal skill, mundane:4!) You gingerly remove your pants from where you had tied them to stabilize your leg. The scepter comes away easily and you realize that your leg is healing up well enough. It's a little hard to tell with all the blood on it and you'll have serious scars but it could be worse. You slip back into your pants, despite them being worn and filthy, covered in your blood. At least you're wearing something now.
You examine the scepter again, with more scrutiny and you gradually get more excited. It is indeed what you expect. You've seen images of this before when you were a child. The dwarven merchants occasionally have items with images worked into them. You recognize this from a shirt you had seen.
This appears to be Rigothevud, or Craftmonk in your tongue. It's a Felsite scepter that is encrusted with polished Felsite and encircled with bands of Felsite. It's top has some spikes of resin-hardened rope reed. You estimate it's worth to be about 6000 di. A truly valuable find! A good buyer might even be willing to pay a bonus as well.
(As a note: You get 10% of found item value added to your final score, unless of course, you survive and leave the fortress with the items, in which case you get full value.)

Creeper-

You head over in the direction of the smoke. Quietly following the wall you do your best to keep to the shadows but the sun is still beating directly upon you and you see little place to hide on the barren hillside that you're climbing. Soon, however, you do see what appears to be a goblin force north of you. You see quite a few of them, but they appear to not have seen you yet.
A vile force of Darkness has arrived!
Strange, it seems that they are sieging the fortress. You're not quite sure what to make of this though.
(In the future all goblin characters can come from the siege itself, providing them with relatively safe refuge and a starting point.)
You observe them for a time and estimate that there are probably nearly fifty goblins encamped in front of the eastern-most gate which stands slighty ajar.
Dwarmin-
(Lure:6!,6!) Using small stones which litter the area you lie in wait, watching the three zombies until you see one drift a little ways away from the others. You utilize that moment to make your attempt to draw it away and launch a few stones at it. Strangely enough you hit it a few times before it seems to notice anything, and only because you missed and a pebble flew in front of it's face. It turned towards you and stood for nearly a minute before finally seeing you and shambling towards you. You ever so slowly lure and taunt it far enough away from the others for you to feel comfortable to engage it.
As it approaches you pick up a few larger sized stones to throw at it as it closes with you, before switching to your staff. (Three ranged attacks)
(Attack:3!) (Dodge:1!) (Location:3!) (Damage:1!) The first stone flies towards it and strikes it, deflecting off of a rear flank as it moved but it appears to have done little to slow it.
(Attack:3!) (Dodge:4!) The second flies towards it but it lurched to one side to avoid some sort of rock or something and your shot flies past it. It closes to within twenty feet of you.
(Attack:1!) Your third shot goes wide in your haste and you pick up your staff as the goat get's close. Backpedalling a little you wait till it moves into range and strike out at it.
(Attack:2!) You overestimate it's speed and your swing fails to connect. (Attack:1!) You try to strike again at it but stumble on the loose rock. (Luck:1!) You fall down.
The goat tries to bite you (Attack:4!) (You dodge:5!-1 (prone)) but you manage to roll out of the way just in time.
You stand again to confront the abomination and swing at it. (Attack:3!) (Dodge:5!) The zombie manages to avoid your blow, staggering to one side before trying to ram you.
(Attack:5!) (Dodge:6!,4!) You nimbly step out of the way of the goat barely avoiding it.
You strike at it as it goes past. (Attack:5!) (Dodge:3!) (Location:2!) (Damage:6!,6!) Your swing connects with it's front left leg and with a sickening crunch you break it clean off of the creature.
You swing again. (Attack:6!,4!) (Dodge:1!) (Location:4!) (Damage:3!) Your swing connects with it again, hitting it in the rear right leg. You hear a crack again and the limb looks disjointed, spilling the zombie onto the ground.
It tries to bite at you again while you're close. (Attack:6!,1!) (You dodge:2!) (Location:4!) (Damage:5!) It manages to sink it's yellowed teeth into your right leg and latches on, trying to chew. You cry out in surprise and alarm. It hurts.
You clumsily try to bat at it with your staff, clubbing the thing attached to you. (Attack:5!) (grappling, no dodge) (Location:5!) (Damage:1!) You bash it in the right front leg but your staff has little momentum and doesn't seem to do much more than bruise the undead flesh. But you got it's attention.
You swing again. (Attack:6!,3!) (Dodge:4!) (Location:1!) (Damage:3!) You bash it again, hitting it flat on the back with your staff and dislodging it. Unfortunately it tore off a small chunk of your leg in the process before going flying a few feet.
It struggles to move towards you.
You step up to meet it, swinging with your staff.
(Attack:4!) (Dodge:2!) (Location:1!) (Damage:5!) Your staff comes down again on top of it, sending it crashing into the ground. You hear ribs crack and break and you've nearly crushed it's rib-cage.
(Attack:6!,2!) (No dodge, immobile) (Location:6!) (Damage:3!) You take another swing at it, catching it in the head and crushing one side of it's face, destroying an eye socket and splattering the viscious orb all over.
It struggles to rise again and moves towards you but can't seem to get the momentum to attack.
You strike at it again and again. (Attack:6!,2!) (Dodge:1!) (Location:4!) (Damage:6!,5!) Your blow comes in at it and it tries vainly to move out of the way. Your staff strikes it in another leg, shattering it and sending the creature flying a dozen feet to strike a boulder. It is no longer moving.
Your leg is bleeding freely and you need to decide if you want to continue hunting the other two.
