less specific liason negotiations
« on: July 15, 2009, 10:24:05 am »

Any changes to this will probably have to wait untill the caravan arc...

During negotiations, having to go through the entire list is a bother (which I usually forego)
esp. the X-leather stuff, could this be streamlined somehow into "any leather item-Y" ?
also it would be nice to be able to look at the current trade arrangements in the civ-screen [c].

You can see the trade agreements in the civ screen.  Use the Tab key.

I agree on the specificity.  I don't see any reason for the import agreement to distinguish between cat leather and deer leather.  Metal bars should be seperated, logs should not.  Rocks should be seperated, leather should not.

What! do you not know about the leathers? Craftsdwarves on a fey mood can and will demand  specific type of leather (usually it's a cost of leather rather than an animal).

Maybe doing them by price would be better. Although that would stop you from being able to give dwarves the stuff you want, say kitten leather boots, which would be irritating for those times that you want things specifically. keep it how it is and stop whining, because your desire for less choice would rob others of the opportunity.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

first it is not a whine, but a request. be respectful please. :P

and no.
I'm not totally opposed to the variety, I'd just like a quick way to request ANY leather armour or whatever.
It would be splendid to retain the variety of leathers.
sub menues below 'rock' , 'leather', etc exposing the different types would be a good solution IMO.

I think submenus would be ideal, yeah.  After all, the other guy's requests are "Metal Bars" or "Legwear".  It would be nice to have them nested that way, so we could request leather in general, or flux stone in general, or bauxite in particular.

Combining the types of wood will make it harder to get large quantities of wood, since they will bring one order of wood instead of separate orders for different kinds of wood.

no, that's the point I missed. They want less specification as a base, so they can say "give me one hundred wood" while someone who cares can say "give me thirty towercaps, forty maple and a couple dozen yews"

How about something simpler:  When you're on the left side of the menu, the key to move the slider moves all the sliders in that section.  No need to organize something already organized by sections afterall.

Because that way you can scroll down to 'wood' for example, when negotiating with humans, and tap the plus key four times. Bam, you've just requested the maximum possible amount of wood.

I like that idea; I wouldn't want to use it for stone or metal very badly, too many useless types. But it's a good plan for food, drink, wood, and the like. Probably for weapons and armor for melting too.

jup.
Oaken barrels are so much better, but for my furnaces I can't care less what sort of forest they murdered.

A similar system is already in for specialising stockpiles, you can group-allow or disallow varying degrees of specialization.
All furniture > only wooden furniture > only chairs
. . . no differentation on woodtypes in that example I'm affraid, but you get the idea.
