Personally, I say just let it go until the food is actually gone. The game likes to get pissy if food is a little bit low. Sadly, morale is going to go down, but that can be fixed with a feast along with a successful raid or two.

Anyways, the weaponthanes were getting annoyed so I hired some more of them and sent off an exploration to the northwest. Sadly, we're fucked.

Sounds like we need to raid another clan to get more livestock so we can raise food stocks.

Survival and evade, we're going to lose anyway no point in losing lives as well as goods. Call in a favour if we need food badly.

Unlike most games I start, we're owed like 10 favors and only owe other people like 5. Even the ring council thinks the harvest should be ok. Worst case scenario we do shitty cattle raids in summer and have to call in a favor or something. We also have 1500 pigs and ANOTHER 1500 sheep we could slaughter.

Alright, vote time. If we need food, do we slaughter pigs, slaughter sheep, buy more food, or call in favor for more food?

I'm torn between favour it or buy it, favours are normally best saved for more difficult to acquire things like raid help, information hero quest help and similar.

How many pigs would we have to slaughter? Sounds like we've got a pretty big herd, so I'm ok with slaughtering some and maybe buying more. I like the idea of saving favours for more dire situations.

Pigs are the first to slaughter in a survival situation, as sheep give us wool, horses are needed for the Thanes and cows=gold.

We could cull a quarter or half of them and they'll regrow fine.

We should send trading caravans for food next season-sell goods and horses, though don't be surprised if we get rejected or pay an obscene price. Food is always bought at a premium.

For the current battle, I say we take survival and skirmish. Trolls kill more than they loot, so lets try to keep them away from the Tula.

Do the pigs provide any benefit other than slaughtering them for food?

Pretty much none, except for a few temple sacrifices. Their advantage is that they grow in our uncultivated land-the land we're not using for farms or cattle which would otherwise go to waste for lack of manpower.

They're like the perfect food. They grow on land we can't use for anything else, and they have no strings attached.
