What a conundrum
« on: July 14, 2009, 10:58:02 pm »

I recieved this message in my email:

Quote
GOOD DAY SIR,

MY NAME IS CHRIST MORGAN, I ARRIVED FROM KENYA WITH MY LATE FATHER TWO CONSIGNMENT BOXES CONTAINING $12MILLIONUSD.  MY FATHER TOGETHER WITH THE OTHER MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY WAS MURDERED BECAUSE OF THE POLITICAL CRISIS THAT IS GOING ON IN MY COUNTRY, WHEN I ARRIVED GHANA, I CONTACTED ONE MR. SMITH MICHAEL'S FROM AMERICA TO HELP ME, HE ASKED ME TO TAKE SOME MONEY OUT OF MY BOX AND SEND TO HIM FOR HIM TO KNOW IF I AM TELLING THE TRUTH, AND I TOOK $25,000usd OUT OF MY BOX AND I SENT IT TO HIM AND HE TOLD ME TO LODGE IN A HOTEL AND I SHOULD GIVE THE HOTEL MANAGER MY BOXES FOR SAFEKEEPING, WHICH I DID.

BUT AFTER SENDING THE MONEY TO HIM, HIS PHONE NUMBER THAT HE GAVE TO ME WAS SWITCHED OFF AND FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CALL MR. SMITH MICHAEL'S BUT I CAN NOT GET THROUGH TO HIM, HE HAS RAN AWAY WITH MY MONEY, I ASKED THE HOTEL MANAGER TO GIVE ME MY BOXES NOW AND HE REFUSED, HE SAID I SHOULD PAY HIM HIS MONEY FOR THE SAFEKEEPING OF THE BOX AND FOR THREE WEEKS AND SOME DAYS.

I DO NOT WANT THE HOTEL MANAGER TO KNOW THE CONTENT OF THE BOX BECAUSE HE CAN ALSO WANT TO STEAL IT, I WAS CRYING IN THE STREETS WHEN I MET ONE WHITE MAN THAT CAME FOR TOUR IN AFRICA, HE THEN NOW  GAVE ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS  FOR ME TO CONTACT YOU, THAT YOU CAN HELP ME, PLEASE , IF THERE IS ANYWAY YOU CAN HELP ME OR ANYBODY YOU TRUST THAT CAN COME TO MY RESCUE PLEASE SIR DO IT FOR ME BECAUSE I AM VERY FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW.

I AM READY TO DO WHATEVER YOU SAY, IT IS JUST THAT I NEED TO GET MY BOX FROM THE HOTEL MANAGER THAT'S ALL AND I WANT TO LEAVE AFRICA AND INVEST THIS MONEY ABROAD, MAY GOD BLESS YOU  AS I HOPE THIS MAIL WITH GET TO YOU I N GOOD CONDITION.

YOUR SON.
CHRIST MORGAN

I want to help him! What should I do?!

Because they can't afford it. Send him the money. You won't regret it.

His name is Christ, so you should trust him.

Okay, I can't say that without a disclaimer. (I know you probably don't need it, but I gotta put one up anyway for others who do.)  http://www.exportbureau.com/bank_transfer_fraud.html So yeah, don't do it kids.

Also: "I AM VERY FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW AND I AM CRYING IN THE STREETS!" Jeez, they lay it on with a trowel, don't they? :D

E-mail back
"Fuck you!
I'm sorry. I'll repay the money.
AS IF. You're a f**king loser!
Where should I send the money?
I'll send it straight up your as*."
Don't trust anyone on the internet.
This reminds me of a spam letter I got once. :D
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Also, how would someone acquire $12 million? I wouldn't trust him if I were you. My old email got a lot of messages like that. <_<

Are you sure!? He sounds so genuine! What if he really is suffering in the streets? I can't bear to have someone like that on my mind after he so deperately reached out to me in need of aid!

You guys are all so mean! And cruel! And cold-hearted! Mean, cold-hearted meanies!!!

Ask him for pictures or proofs or something, first. Find a way to show the he is genuine. You can't be too trusting on the internet. :(
I learned that on Runescape.

The reason its in all caps is probably becuase hes yelling and its an emergency(and hes getting your attention), go out and help him. Where does he ask for money though, I thought he wanted you to rescue him...

If there is ANY reason to believe this is anything else than spam (I cant find one):
Give him the Email address of a trusted person that actually lives in the area near were he claims to be, also link to this thread to explain why you didn't send money.
