Girl falls down manhole in Staton Island

So sad

Not really. Okay. So a girl falls down an open manhole. You might be thinking at this point how she didnt see it coming. Apparently, she was texting. While looking at the phone, she fell down it and acquired many scratches and bruises. And now her parents want to sue IIRC.

 Ah, baseless legal accusations. Although I would like to see the equipment of the crew who was working with said manhole. I'm sure they have to tape them off when working.

 And only banks can sue themselves.

When a manhole is left open, every effort is made to block it off and alert everyone around.  If you step in a hole in road, especially because you were doing something else while walking, you get up, laugh at yourself, and walk on.

Bummer. Here I thought in the US of A you can sue anyone including yourself.

Err, well, you know guys...I'm pretty certain this is Professional Negligence Resulting in Injury, because city workers are required to block off manholes before they open them. Or at least, that would be the case here and I assume the states laws operate the same way. Yes, falling down a manhole is stupid, but someone also wasn't doing their fucking job if it was open, unwatched and completely unmarked.

I'm against frivolous lawsuits, but I'd be surprised if she lost this.

According to the article, she fell four or five feet.

Seriously, why the hell are you complaining? I mean, it sucks that you're all scratched up and bruised, but suing over this would just be waste. Just make the city pay for the medical bills(if there are any).
