Finding your old fortress
« on: July 14, 2009, 07:10:22 am »

Do I actually have to find it in game to get there?

Is there a quick way to just go to the fortress?

The reason why I ask is 'cos I left a LOT of adamantium goodies lying around.

In adventurer mode you can do a search for it as a site (shift Q), and then (T)ravel there quite happily.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

could we perhaps have this map?

Pretty please? Some of us are unlucky in fortress mode and never seem to get around to forging admant weapons.

It's a cheat site, I added:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

to the reaction_standard, and then embarked with Weaponsmiths, Armorsmiths, and a furnace operator (which was unnecessary). Then I just forged one of every single piece of adamantium equipment. I'm thinking about forging trap components like serrated discs and huge axes, for more hilarious unconventional weapons.

Before I did this though, I copied my vanilla fortress folder so I didn't have to redownload anything if it went wrong (for any reason)

The play now option will make you appear at a random player made fortress.  But you don't get to choose skills.

If you want skills however you need to find it in adventure mode.  Just bringing up the reclaim select a site thing can help you with remembering what the nearby map terrain looks like.  Spawn at the nearest dwarf civilization and either go by what you recognize of the map to find it, or bug dwarves asking about the area til one eventually mentions it.  Once it's mentioned you can use the "Q" key and use the zoom to site function to give you the exact location of the fortress.  Follow that and yer there.

What I really would find awesome, would be a world that had been passed around, player to player, populated with many dwarven fortresses. That would be just awesome to explore in adventure mode :D

World of traps and attractions. Do a search every once in a while.

...

...Maybe?

I don't know, its a POSSIBILITY perhaps? That you could do one little search?

Thank you, this looks awesome  :D

Though I will admit I forgot that I could have searched, I just now tried searching and only found several other threads of the same idea, many people chorusing "yes! that would be awesome!", and then nothing.

For actually finding the real deal, I thank you  :)
