Seriously, I used to have all kinds of insomnia problems and tried a bunch of different sleeping pills. The only one that worked well and didn't give me a hangover was Ambien, which also had the nice side effect of making me higher than a kite and have extremely pleasant hallucinations, but the not so nice side effects of being extremely addictive and prescription-only. So I picked up some Melatonin from the local Rite-Aid and bam, never looked back. It's the chemical your brain secretes to make you sleepy anyway, so it just makes you feel extra-drowsy, not weird and tripped out like other sleeping pills. I take about a quarter of the recommended dose and sometimes I still wake up a little groggy if I didn't get the full 8 hours, but it works great.

Keeping your curtains open or blinds up, that way you can wake up at a reasonable time. If you really need the sleep, then you tend to sleep through it.
