you mean when I started?

I had Armor User, Wrestler, Novice Swimmer, Shield User, and a lot in Axedwarf

I went through the world and trained up my wrestling to legendary (as well as armor user and almost shield user) and then went to a goblin fortress to train up axe skill, but rand into a goblin, lost my axe, killed him, immediately ran into the demon trying to get my axe, killed him (losing an arm in the process and wounding both legs....), grabbed my axe and tried to get out, but was ambushed by a ton of goblins as I was almost out of the tower....

I think you got very lucky, considering every time i got close to a demon he breathed fire on me, usually i blocked it, but then he proceeded to break all my joints.

Luck will always have a lot to do with it. Try a spear though, since you can make the demon pass out.

Even with all legendary stats, he always dodges then counterattacks my attacks with any weapon.

It may have something to do with my adamantine sword/shield, but a legendary Swordsdwarf with legendary wrestling and shield/armor using could kill an entire legion of Frog demons and a couple of SoFs.

On a side note, you should add a spoiler warning, as I have just done.

demons are naturally near legendary wrestlers, meaning they will dodge and cripple you like crazy. You better be at least equal to them, if not better.

You make it in Fortress mode and then go raid the abandoned fortress.

Incidentally, a handy hint: You know how items get strewn around when you abandon, making it hard to find your lovely adamantine equipment? Well, there's a way around: They will stay inside your forge if you don't haul them to a stockpile. All items stay inside buildings.

So what I do is set up one forge, kill all my stockpiles, forge the equipment and abandon. Then all I have to do is find that forge again. Easy as pie.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

I killed it one-on one with my hammer lord. It was easy. I even gouged out his eyes while he was still concious.

So both Morul and Captain Ironblood are way beyond perfect stats. I assume you can do this in adventure mode as well? It's probably the key to not dying in melee to especially strong foes.

It started raining, then all my dwarves outside started bleeding to death. On inspection their upper bodies were missing.

I've killed one before with melee. I ran up to up and he decided to fly instead of firebreath me. He attacked, but I blocked. I counterstriked and slashed his throat out. Then he fell to the ground and fell unconsious. I waited for him to get back up but he ended up suffocating.
