Strategy games with custom units/weapons
« on: July 13, 2009, 04:25:14 pm »

I'm talking Brikwars level of customization.

Preferably with some sort of graphics, but most importantly multiplayer.

Anyone got something like that?

EDIT:Yes,I want software.

I don't know what Brikwars is, but try Alpha Centauri.

Well... What I want is a computer game with similar gameplay to Brikwars. Or at least the level of customization.

If I remember right Earth 2160 had a good level of customization.

Master of Orion (or any space 4x) lets you design your own ships. Is that what you mean?

I think I came at this wrong...

Alright, what I want is a virtual Lego program, complete with mini-figures,a boundless supply of bricks, ability for mobile constructions(vehicles),pretty much all the riff raff you'd get with real legos.

And two or more person support of course.

I basically want to play brikwars over the web.

I think maybe Garry's Mod is what you want?

The closest thing I know would be brood wars. you've only got a few units, but you can mount any weapon on them you want. Besides that, the only resource you've got is energy needed to power buildings, so the amount of units you can build is capped by your build speed and the amount of psi structures you want to build (more psi buildings or how they were called = less power for gene labs = more creatures but slower production)

Well, there is blockland(I reccomend the free alpha with RTB 1.045 for it), although it is more of a freeform sandbox FPS, and you can't exactly build your own vehicles(there is one that you can attach bricks to, but it uses hackish methods and is limited to sticking them directly onto the vehicle in 8 or 16 predefined positions)...

But with a bit of effort, you could make ANYTHING(The alpha's scripts are open source uncompiled and open to modification)

Not to blow my own horn, but I am (sort of) working on a pseudo table top wargame where the players are responsible for designing all units and armies.  It's on hold due to scheduling, but I'm eager to start working on it again.

I consider it relevant to your question because one of my rules to keep players honest about the units they design is to require them to make some kind of graphic representation.  My suggested method being with the Lego Digital Designer.  So not entirely relevant.  But I thought I'd try, since my main inspiration was to remake Brikwars in format conducive to playing by forum posts.
