damn. that will require my novice C programming skills (and a billion other complicated things) rather than the simpler mod. I really want to fire ballista bolts at oncoming hordes of orcs, but alas, I'll have to wait.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

RoF is also dependent on quality and skill - just create a battery of 6 or more, train enough Siege Operators from early in game, funnel the orcs into a long, narrow shooting gallery, and enjoy.

If you add a few marksdwarves in a balcony firing position over the battery, they'll never reach the end. (A few more in a reverse battlement set-up and the survivors will never get out.)

See wiki "siege engine" for expansion on these ideas.

"Fool"?  Someone is, certainly - perhaps me, because I sure can't find anything about siege engine RoF in the RAWS - perhaps you could enlighten us all?

I think that was tongue-in-cheek, i.e. telling you to mod real life's raws for a milkshake and a <deleted>.

mod real life's raws for a milkshake and a <deleted>.

I was under the impression <deleted> was hardcoded to require a masterwork gold ring encrusted in diamond (or at least a promise of said object)?

Nope. If they have the right traits then you can waive the requirements. Mine does, so I do :D

Now, I'm off to have my milkshake. The <deleted> can wait until she's awake.
