A Dwarfy tune (run song #5 is up!!)
« on: July 11, 2009, 10:09:40 pm »

Well, with a DF podcast on the horizon, there's been a call made for a short bit of music. Being the two year composition (and struggling about dropping the third) student, I'm taking the challenge.

I've got a program called Sibelius 5 student to use for this project. If memory serves, it has some really serious issues, but I'm reinstalling it now.

Basically, any suggestion from anyone? A key, instruments you want to hear (it'll all be computer generated for now)?

Clearly, the most dwarven instrument is the tuba. Also, it should include excessive cymbals.

Seriously.

A bunch of stone and wood clanking because real dwarven instruments are made from microline.

I've whipped through one idea.
Musicians: 3 bassoons, Drum set, Electric Guitar, Low Choir, High Choir.

It starts with the bassoons going through the E minor scale. Then the drums get added, then the guitar, then the lows, then the highs.

It's twice as long as it should be though  :-\.

Does anyone have a good place to put MIDI files online in a listenable area?

It should be old fashioned drinking tavern music, with lyres and lutes and fifes and so forth.

I don't have all that much to work with here, please note.

Does anyone have any idea how I'd go about getting a MIDI file online? Youtube won't take it directly, and my genius plan of using Windows Movie Maker to turn it into a no-video video have been stymied by midi not being recognized by the Maker.

Help please?

Hmm...
Play it, record it with audacity, save it as .mp3 (or .ogg), and upload it to the intertubes?
(side note: firefox 3.xx can play .ogg files natively)

Any plain old file hosting site, like Rapidshare, will at least let other people hear it.  You'll just have to reupload it when the free-account hosting hits it's download limit each time.

And Aqizzar is the winner.

Here is the link to DFT one:
http://rapidshare.com/files/254802137/dft1.mid.html
I'll look into one of these "free collector accounts" so it doesn't vanish after 10 listens. Once we get to 10 (9, because I tried it out), I'll upload it again.
Just download and play with Media Player.

It seems like a oriental temple song for old dungeon crawlers. I like it!
