Hmm. I'd join, except the D&D 3.5th rules are a pain in the ass to deal with, and I don't have my player handbooks handy. I still want to see how this goes, so, I guess I'll just be a spectator.

Which is why I oriented toward survival skills and stuff.

The GM has stated he's not completely following the standard rules. I can only assume that yes, you will eventually be able to get spells, but you will not simply be handed them. Remember the prime rule of Dungeons and Dragons: The GM is above all rules.
