Of course it does, and it also contains things like antibodies from the mother's body, which are good, especially if you don't live in the first world.

Om the topic of human milk what does everyone think of breastfeeding?
At least one large formula company got their asses handed to them in court once for trying to sell baby formula to impoverished nations. The effects of this were not very good.

Heh? Why?

Mother's also naturally filter out contaminants from liquids for the milk.

It was also oddly enough used as evidence that Floride could be bad for you. Though that is an entirely different discussion (and one hillariously fought on both ends!)

To my knowledge it isn't JUST that they sold it to third world contries but that they actually advocated that it is better then breast feeding or something. There was some form of foul play somewhere.

Also, third world people with no education will get confused as to what it actually is, and would water it down sometimes because they couldn't afford enough, which is the other problem: You don't sell that kind of stuff to people who can barely afford to eat. Baby formula is, in essence, a luxury product.

And yeah, not only did they claim it's better than breastmilk, but not breastfeeding infants when you live in certain conditions is a very good way to screw up their health.

Oh, I forgot to mention:

Since you have to mix the formula with water, and water in third-world countries often isn't very sanitary... well, you do the math.

Not to mention that it is nearly impossible to sterilize a baby-bottle in third world conditions, meaning that you ended up giving the baby milk that was tainted as soon as it was put in its bottle. I think that was one of the biggest reasons for the 3rd-world baby-formula scandal.

I really don't see why you would use baby formula without a genuine need for it (i.e. you're a single father, or the mother couldn't produce milk from the get-go). Not only is it almost certain to be detrimental to the child's health but it probably also buggers up mother-child bonding and mental development.

Edit: dammit, did it again. OPs consent or not, it just feels wrong to be posting about breastfeeding in a thread labelled "Pedigree dogs exposed".

Actually at the height of Formula's popularity it was considered "odd" to Breastfeed or even bad parenting.

If you watch really old television shows you can even find a reference to it.

Though this is just the USA.

While it's true that breast milk is best for one's baby, a lot of times there is WAY too much emphasis put on it (in non-third world countries of course; it's still better to breastfeed if you are impoverished and in an unhealthy environment). If you can't breastfeed for some reason, you're not doing your baby a disservice, but people can get downright nasty if you admit that you don't breastfeed for a reason they don't like. The culture has definitely shifted back.

Also . . . if the only bonding you have with your baby is breastfeeding . . . well, you're doing it wrong. :D I'm sure it contributes, but there are a ton of other factors that will allow you to bond with your baby if you can't breastfeed.

K, I'm done . . . sorry. I'll try not to derail anymore.

So are we up to 5 derails now? I think we're getting into the more nonsensey part of various nonsense now.
Thank god we avoided the porn part. Nope, I wont say that in case someone actually post some causing Toady to get mad.

Well if you exclude all the times the TC did it or accepted the topic change then it is more like 3.

The rest of the derails were people derailing the topic for the heck of it. I am looking at you Yanlin!!! not funny... and Dragooble.
