compressed algae. Yeast to.

Ironically, that TASTES like it was.

Edit: wait you mean what's not dead stuff. Well in that case you still have synthesised stuff made from oil, unless you're really picky and point out the oil is fossilised dead things.

Almost all food is disgusting if you think about what it really is, most of it is dead things or body fluids.
Most? What isn't?!

Quote
Dictionary:  food   (fūd)
n.
   1. Material, usually of plant or animal origin, that contains or consists of essential body nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.
   2. A specified kind of nourishment: breakfast food; plant food.
   3. Nourishment eaten in solid form: food and drink.
   4. Something that nourishes or sustains in a way suggestive of physical nourishment: food for thought; food for the soul.

With that definition, I'd say: water.

kinda, it wont be very nutritious food whit current tech, but you can make various flavourings and pre servants and artificial sweeteners and all sots of stuff like that hasn't been part of anything alive for a few hundred million years. You can probably make simple sugars or fats as well. So yes you can make food from oil but it wont taste very well and while you wont starve to death you WILL die of malnutrition.

And yes, water to.

Meh I don't eat birds, pigs or eggs, personal reasons really, made when I was a kid and my pride and overzealous fanaticism to my ideals state I cannot change that.

Birds I don't eat cause they are my favorite animal though.

Everything else is fair game though.

Your "fair game" is nothing compared to mainland Chinese... some of them will even eat human placenta, which is regarded as being very rich in nutrients. Chinese medicine has a special name for it too: "紫河車".

Actually, the placenta-eating movement has started to spread throughout the world. My ob-gyn gave me a pamphlet on it. I just said "no thank you" and moved on with my life. :D

I don't like the idea of products made out of people...

Kind of the same reason I don't like, er, "human milk" as opposed to cow milk. It's probably just fine, but it doesn't sit right with me.

It isn't really derailed if the Topic creator is doing it. In that case it is simply switching rails.

It's still considered the best option, and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

Baby formula is good if breast milk isn't an option, but that's about it.

At least one large formula company got their asses handed to them in court once for trying to sell baby formula to impoverished nations. The effects of this were not very good.

They are still trying to find ways to artificially create Mother's milk.

The problem is that they found it is more complex then first thought especially since Mother's milk isn't static it actually changes.
