Also, I'm running the game with VDM sound but I can't get the sound to work. Has anybody figured out how to do this?

VDMSound was awesome five-ten years ago :/ because it was the only way to get sound in a lot of stuff, because DOSBox didn't work for all things or was too slow.  But DOSBox has made MASSIVE improvements since then.  In my opinion...ditch VDMS completely and switch to DOSBox for -all- your needs.  It can handle it.  Heck, if I can play Mechwarrior 2 in DOSBox, complete with CD and everything...

I personally loved the micromanagement of MOO2. I just like micro in serious games.

Master of Orion II is essentially Master of Magic in space. It has the hero system, the city/planet improvement system, and then it adopts the technology system from Master of Orion as well as the space combat.

While I think Master of Orion is the better game, I have more fun playing Master of Orion II since there are more options and things to tinker around with. And Stellar Converters.

My dad has all of these games. And he has all of the strategy guides as well, back when a four hundred page or longer strategy guide was common for games as deep as the Master of series.

I'm still mad that they've never made a real sequel to Master of Magic.

Yeah, but that's still just a spiritual successor. Much like Age of Wonder was. It'll be a good game, but it's not going to be Master of Magic 2.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if someone doesn't make a decent mod for it that could come close.

MOO runs faster with VDM sound for me than with Dosbox. Although I don't have the newest Dosbox version...but in any case, do you have it working with sound in Dosbox?

I find MOO is a lot better than MOM, if for no other reason than the AI seems somewhat more competent. They both suffer from dragging endgames though...that's a major weakness of 4x games.
