The Indonesian General Election
« on: July 08, 2009, 06:39:14 pm »

to choose the president and vice-president.
And now are ridden with cheaters.

Hey! The vote-adding (Name? ??? ) people are biased with the incumbent! But the enlightened people hates the incumbent! We want the number 3rd!

And god-damn if the incumbent got the president title again... EARTH WILL BURN!

As an American, I will insist on remaining ignorant about your countries politics while insisting you know everything about mine.

Wait... IndonesiaWarMinister is.... INDONESIAN?!

I'd have never guessed!

Seriously though, I don't understand you one bit IWM. It might be because I don't know who the Enlightened people are or what they do, or who the incumbent is...

Yeah, yeah.
Sorry. I was, uh, a bit crazy back then?

Oh well.

It largely steams off to a fight between the elites (which are represented by the incumbent, which is really weak in persona, in my opinion) v.s. other elites (2 of them, both of which has, uh, more interesting (read: more nationalism) than the incumbent)

And, all of the corporation in the country (except the incumbent rivals') supports the incumbent.
Also, there are reports of the election staffs *helping* the uneducated people to choose the incumbent.

And, the incumbent (or perhaps his henchmen) are using lies to protect his reign.
Really.

That's what making me mad. With the incumbent having 60 % votes in all the quick count done by nearly every survey organization.

I thought that Cthulhu is eating the voters, instead of voting himself!  ;D

Even though I was originally your neighbour, I will say I don't know jack shit about your country other than you generally hate us for everything.

Mmm... the last Indonesian president I can remember is Suharto...

Meh, tories will be tories.  Conservative voters know their MPs will be corrupt sleazebags.  Christ, they have like 10 jobs each and they still want more money.

Ah, that's what it's like in third world countries. You might live in a big city, but try to think of the rural people. To them, the incumbents might as well be the Enclave, strong enough to wipe out their village without a care in the world or cut power/trade/water supplies and such. You probably know that they won't do any such thing and that if people vote for someone else, they wouldn't suddenly bulldoze over a village.. but the 40% of your people don't. Heck, they don't even know what your president is doing wrong any more than some American does.

Yeah.
It's official, we are not ready for a democracy.

Expect an oligarchy coup.

Democracy is seriously flawed when over half the population don't understand the political issues. It's better than complete despotism, but really doesn't work in the third world.

It's sad, really. Indonesia is a powerful nation. A lot of natural resources, magma, a lot of smart people, lots of money, and a LOT of well, people. Plenty of food to feed all of them and enough space to not overpopulate (aside from the major cities). And it's got one of the strongest cultures and assimilation rates in the world. It could very well be a superpower if it wasn't the most corrupt country in the region.
