[40d11] Odd error message.
« on: July 07, 2009, 11:17:25 pm »

I keep getting the error message, verbatim:  "Onamrigoth, Stray Fisherman (Tame) cancels Fish.  Too injured."

Now the problem is, I have no fishermen that are named Onamrigoth.  I have no animals named Onamrigoth, I have no tamed 'stray fishermen' named Onamrigoth.  No one in my entire fortress has the name Onamrigoth, yet the game insists that he's there.  Very heavily too.

Luckily I don't have to see every single one of those messages since it parses it, but the game is heavily insistent that I have someone named Onamrigoth and, while he is injured, he won't die evidently.

Is there any fix to this?  Saving/reloading didn't work.

Edit:  Oh and as a little side note:  In this game the horses can give birth to multiple foals.  In reality, this more often than not kills the mare and when a vet or reproductive manager finds one, they'll go in and crush one of the embryos.  Just a little fun fact.  I doubt dwarves would be crushing embryos but still, they shouldn't be having multiple foals.

That is.... a wierd error all right.

Are you using any mods? Just wondering here.

Yeah, that's my first question too.  That looks like an intelligent pet which lacks the necessary body parts for fishing.

Did you search the entire unit list for an "Onamrigoth"?

Also, the message appears to say "Fishermen", which is puzzling.

Hrm.

One thing to try - get a copy of 40d and the Dwarf Companion utility, copy a save over and load it, then run Dwarf Companion.  You can use that to get a list of all creatures, so should help you locate this... whatever it is.

If you can't locate it, you should be able to, at least, use the Hurt command to murder it to end the messages.

But, it sounds like you somehow altered a file that let you tame _something_ that has the skill to fish, but not the physical ability (ie, missing some body part).

is he okay?
In the traditional sense of the word?  No, he's been dissolved in magma.

Hey just letting ya'll know it got to the brink of insanity, so I broke down and went line by line through my entire list (even deceased) and finally found the guy.  It was buried in the deceased list (yet it was very much alive) and it turned out to be someone's pet dog....

Yah, I don't know either.  But I butchered him and now he's a crossbow bolt lying in a field some where.  Would have burned him in magma but have none on my map :(

Anyhow, it wasn't a stray fisherman (and his owner wasn't even skilled in fishing, let alone assigned to it), just a dog who some how got it into its head to fish.

Never altered any files, and the only mod I have is the one that makes the game look good.  Crazy Mike's or something like that.

I should have warned you beforehand to back up the save so that Toady could look at the problem.  Something was very wrong if a live creature was labeled as "Deceased".

Did you happen to see if the dog had any skills?  Could you change its labor options?

Did you ever use a utility like Dwarf Companion?  Did you get the savegame from somebody else?
