There are a few things you can do for or to ernest to get by.  You might want to get used to the various things that could happen there.

Don't try to kill Ernest, it's easier just to give him what he wants. You may lose your dignity, but you can kill him later.

If you join in on the fun after prchr has attacked, you can get loads of xp for it, and the shoggoth won't be attacking you.
