“Mission control, this is Richthofen. We've landed, no hostiles yet. Zero seems deserted, we can see signs of a struggle, with possible friendly casualties. Will advise as we get more information."

Captain Scott (Mission Control): Confirmed, Richthofen.

“Okay, I want everybody to be on the lookout for any other signs of struggle. Bullet holes, shell casings, blood, whatever.”

Captain Scott:: Errr, Richthofen, it looks like the troops at Zero were still carrying the old M6. They’d all have 10mm caseless for bullets then. I’m not sure, but it’s also possible that they had a few clips of the exploding tip variant. But, there probably won’t be any shell casings.

“Taken under advisement. All units. Okay, I want two guys from one on me over here. Vandenburg, you’ve got the shotgun,  you get point. One guy will cover this window here, Vandy, you’ll enter the building and check the rooms right to left. Got it?

Vandenburg: “Understood.”

Sergeant Rickard: “Tamez, you’re already there. You can stay. Over there.”

“The rest of one will cover the generator building. Two, I want you to move to the door or the barracks and cover it. If there’s a window, get someone to it and look inside. Move.”

The sergeants gave the orders, while Vandenburg got ready to enter. Time seemed to drag on. Vandenburg opened the door and entered.

Vandenburg: “Okay, behind door number one is . . .”

A machinegun went off, terribly close. The 1st Lt grabbed Jerrith and hauled him to the ground, as bullets went through the wall they were standing by.
RATATATATA
Followed immediately by the heavy blasts of a shotgun on full auto.

Richthofen watched the soldier smash out the window (including a frame) and jump inside. He felt himself follow a second after. Hostile action in a small building. Try to secure all rooms? The door was lying open, someone was slumped inside. Vandenburg was on the ground. Richthofen smashed down the far left door with his boot. It was just an office, empty.

Tamez: “Back room clear!”
Jerrith: “Clear!”
