Please help me get 40d12 to show the full screen

No doubt there's an answer on the massive OpenGL DF thread and elsewhere, but my search skills have not found it...

I play DF, put it away, and wander back later.  On my latest return, I downloaded 40d12 and instead of seeing the full screen, everything was in a band, perhaps 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the screen.  Simply, I'd like to get the same full screen display I had with 40d.

I've tried several solutions.  The most successful to date:  I read about the zoom function, moved my mouse wheel a click, and got full screen graphics.  However all the text pages (stock, kitchen, units, etc.) are only a half page, from the top of the screen.

Other things I've tried:
  • Changing resolution and character sets have given me everything on the bottom half of the screen.
  • Setting [BLACK_SPACE=NO] uses the entire screen, but I think looks muddy and I don't like the gap between characters.

I've got a bog standard init.txt file.
[FULLSCREENX:800]
[FULLSCREENY:600]
[FULLFONT:curses_800x600.png]

[BLACK_SPACE:YES]

Windows XP.  Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS.  Other info if you need it.

Yeah, lots of menus just don't fill the screen.  There's no fixable problem here.

The zoom/resizing function resets the grid to proper values when executed, but it isn't automatically executed at startup. Geez, I should do something about that already.

I think what's actually being complained about is that the stocks menus don't fill the screen ever.  They always just take up the original 80x25 dimensions.  They don't scale.

No, I've questions about the whole package, but found a way to get the graphics screen showing 80x25.  I think the characters are a bit smaller; once I master the zoom, that will be useful.

So, future versions will start with the unzoomed 80x25 I'm used to?

A side note, thanks to the folks doing the OpenGL work.  I'm getting 300+ FPS on maps I think in the past I'd be lucky to have 80.

I've got the same problem but more questions.  I first had the problem with d12, I simply decided not to use .d12 and wait for the next version hoping this "feature" would be "improved".

Got .d13 today, with the same problem.  In full screen it won't stretch, and leaves everything in the upper-left-hand corner.  I tried comparing my previous init.txt to the new one in d13, and the only seemingly applicable difference I could find was [BLACK_SPACE:YES] instead of NO.  From what I understand from the comments in init.txt, changing this back to NO should relieve this problem, and give me full screen.  It doesn't.

I run my little laptop at 1920x1200 - I can't even use my mousewheel to zoom in that far.  I don't want to change my compy's resolution every time I play DF.  So what's the deal?  Why was BLACK_SPACE's default changed to YES in the newer versions?  What the crap does it do?  'Cause it either doesn't do what it claims to do, I'm misunderstanding the claims, or it's simply broken.  Anyone know a no-hassle way of fixing this, or should I stick with d11?

And yeah, none of these problems are related to stocks menu scaling... in fact, I never had problems with that.  It's just this new version, nothing stretches at all.  Nothing.

EDIT:  The best I've been able to manage, messing with init settings is to get [in full screen] approximately 1/3 of the bottom of my screen as black, with everything fitting fine left-to-right.  Everything just looks vertically crammed.  Horizontally everything fits the exact same as in previous versions.  Prior to .d12 everything would look as properly proportioned text, now it looks as if my text is being crushed.  Everything is getting "stretched" vertically, in that it's going the whole 1920 pixels across, it just won't stretch the 1200 up and down anymore.  ... anyone know why.  What is different now D:
And I'm not using any special graphics tilesets or anything, and haven't in the past.  I like my DF looking all roguelike.

Can you post the relevant lines from your init.txt so I can replicate this exactly?

I'm not seeing a problem myself, but then, I haven't tried it on a 1080p screen either. I just got one, so please show me what's going wrong.

My .d11, I don't think anything else could be applicable.  These settings work in .d11 just peachy.

With these exact same settings in .d12 and 13, I have the problem.  It doesn't seem to go away with tweaking, but I admit I didn't spend an hour tweaking.  I'm just trying to figure out why these settings don't work anymore.

Hell, to make sure I'm not missing anything I just replaced my .d13 init.txt with my 11 one, and the problem persists.  Something new in the code I guess.

I guess I can think of this vertically challenged text as being dwarven themed.  Doesn't relieve my eyes though.

Yes, I.. see the problem. Actually, how did I miss that?

I know it worked in fullscreen at some point, I must simply have forgotten to check. Probably thought I'd made no changes that would affect it. Geez.

I'll get right on it. Meanwhile, resizing a window to fullscreen size should be a usable work-around.
