What is the justification for that exactly? my boat is much smaller and shouldn't really need as much sail area as a large one.

IT'S ONLY MODERATELY LARGE!!!
That black area in the front is the jib.  It sweeps, so I can't place anything in that space, really.

Seems somebody forgot about the edit key. That or they didn't realize that a horizontal line would make a clear enough of a split that people will know which ship he speaks of. Still, no reason to fret over that now. I sorted out the issue.
