YAM - Yet Another Megaproject
« on: July 04, 2009, 04:13:52 pm »

With the current megaprojectsplosion, I thought to myself, why not make one myself? So I will. It's still in it's designing phase, and it might still be so for a while. I was thinking of recreating the aftermath of a major battle between the Gods. Or, to be precise, between Armok and the God of Magma. (Yes, I'll try to think of a story detailing everything...) And seeing how incredibly awesome Armok is, he simply decapitated the God of Magma. At that point, he turned into an enormous Obsidian statue, with Magma (because what God of Magma has blood for blood?) eternally squirting out of the wound. even his equipment has turned to stone!

Progress:
  • Site: found.
    Spoiler: Features (click to show/hide)
  • Design: Sketched, Blockcad rendering happening: I just have to add the weapon and shield. Screenshots spoilered for huge.
Spoiler: Blockcad renderings (click to show/hide)
  • Construction: Starting now! Note, however, that this is my first attempt at an MP and also my first attempt at Obsidian casting. Things might go horribly awry. I'm also doing it with the original seven, until I need the labor force to construct the mould.
  • Background story: N/A, waiting for completion/construction/boredom to strike.

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

You could also do an ice god bleeding water.

Assuming you have some way of creating ice (Naturally, or by raising the freezing temperature of water), you can turn them into constructions, where they become indestructible.

After you finish with the statue, you can simply revert the water back to normal.

Don't suppose you could post that map, by the way? Sounds fun.

EDIT: You know what would make your projetc even better? Automatic construction. If you rig up the magma and water pumps to the maximum height of the statue, and use one-shot pressure plates to toggle either the water or magma pump stacks on, you just *might* be able to pull one lever and then sit back while the statue casts itself, layer by layer.

EDIT: Now I have the urge to try that.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

The map itself isn't very interesting. If you tell me how it's done, I'll be happy to provide the map for you.

Question: Which weapon should the God of Magma have?

If you really want to be badass here's my recommendation...

Give him a hammer and have magma pour out from the top so that it covers the entire hammer head before dripping off into a drain of magma below. You can have the hammer be facing the ground (head on the ground) to make it a little easier.

Bonus points if you craft some obsidian 'veins' onto the hammer (rather than make it smooth) so that some obsidian shows through the flowing magma.

Do a fight between the god of ice and the god of magma, never letting either one melt/ burn/turn into obsidian :D

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
