I think he spells it the way it sounds.

Yeah I know. I was just fooling a bit, again on the over-used, not-even-funny-anymore Elf joke.

My girlfreind sometimes tells me to "go play with your dwarvs." It has on occasion gotten us some weird looks...

I think I've gotten that exact same phrase out of my ex when we were still together.

My friends rarely use the name, but they do call it

"The game with No graphics" or sometimes "the One dimensional game"

GF used to call it "The Matrix" but by now I've explained to her how my Dwarves would kick her Sims' ass. The future possibility to strangle someone with their own gut impressed - in the level of it's innate sick-ness - her as much as it impressed me (Seriously, that has to be the sickest idea I've ever heard, but the ingenuity and possibility of it are strangely interesting). Now she at least calls it "Dwarf Matrix".

So, the possibility of scorching someone like a banana, cutting a little piece of their limbs every day and leaving them with nothing to eat but their own flesh hasn't ever crossed your mind ?
...
Well, I guess now it has.

My boyfriend just calls it Dwarf Matrix. Or, "that dwarf builder program". I don't think he's realized what kind of game it is yet.

Once when I was visiting my parents, I left my laptop open with DF running while I made food. My mom came by just as a Vile Force of Darkness entered my fair land, and got to watch goblins be tossed about willy-nilly by my dwarves.

The violence shocked her into silence, particularly after we looked at what body parts were lying around. Now she refers to it as "that dwarf war game with all the chunks".

I usually just call it DF, or "Playing dorfs"

My girlfriend calls it "Gnome Digger."

Which admittedly would make a pretty cool mod, where you have Gnomes whose tools can't dig through rock and other Gnomish nonsense.

One of my friends came to my room, looked at me playing DF, and says "WTF is that? All I see is smiley faces on dots. Are you playing Pacman?" My roomate LOL'd at it and he's been referring to DF as "that Pacman-like game" ever since.

EDIT: Haha, I looked back at the thread and found it funny that I'm not the only one who gets "WTF is that?"

"the One dimensional game"
Wow, a one dimensional game would be awesome.  It would be, like, a line of pixels.
