Question: possibility of larger graphic tilesets
« on: July 03, 2009, 02:08:42 am »

Given the recent ability of 40d12 to zoom out, would it be possible to create a new tileset with 32x32 or 64x64 tiles for close up view, which you could then zoom out as much as you wanted? If this would work for map tiles and would not affect menus it would be plain grand.

Hrm.

Haven't used D12 myself yet, but that's possible in theory.

However, the game uses the same tileset for map tiles and the text for menus, so all the text would be, I think, stuck at the large size, regardless of the zoom.

In the traditional sense of the word?  No, he's been dissolved in magma.

Was just thinking about this aswell...

I wish Toady would bring in support to separate menu text and in-game tiles... would make tilesets a lot nicer.

I'm sure that'll happen one day, but it's way down on the list'o'importance.

At any rate, someone was making a very large tileset, but lost the files, so I don't know if that'll still get finished or not.

I've been playing with a 32x32 and 64x64 set myself, but I'm no artist, so I've just been steeling sprites from other games, but it's hard to find good ones the right size (more so for 64x), and I just don't have all that much time to work on it.
