I always save the berries untill I get can make some candies for contests.
Now go buy another 5 pokeballs, if you got the cash.. and some potions incase we need them.

We need a grass type.  Shroomish or Seedot, pick one.  I always go shroomish, but that is just because I have sapphire.
I suggest Shroomish.  Breloom isn't that bad of a pokemon. I mean, yeah, it sucks, but whatever.

Also, I keep encountering silcoon, cascoon, and wurmple.

Oh, hey. Look at that. There's only a 5% chance of encountering those. Should I catch it?

Yes.  It's more like 8 %, but whatever. I personally don't like it, but I think it can tank forever.  Too bad tanking like that doesn't work the way it does in most games.

Yeah, that about meshes with my experience.  Poochy really sucks in the beginning, zigzagoon is amazing for no apparent reason, and the starter is just like omgwtfbbq not very-effective-one-hit-ko.
Don't know what's up with your taillow, though.

Back to the pokemon center?

I keep zigzagoon with me because he has "Pick Up"
He got me a whole bunch of Full Restore and Full Heal and even a couple of Rare Candies!
