Ten years will certainly change a place, not to mention a planet.
Ten years ago, the apocalypse occurred. Spontaneous Genome Deficiency Syndrome, SGDS, ripped through the world, causing an epidemic and along with it, panic on a global scale. The terror and anarchy came to a head after the French government dropped two tactical nuclear bombs on Paris. But even this failed to stop the virus. A special coalition force residing in a military base, consisting of a German, an American and four Russians, five men and a woman, took shelter underground after much of the personnel had fled. For the first year, they were able to pick up radio transmissions and listen as humanity died. Then, the transmissions stopped. For ten years, they stayed in the bunker. For ten years they breathed recycled air, ate the same rations, fought and made up with everyone, considered suicide and waited in the cramped hell of the bunker. Then, they made a decision. They would leave. You can’t stay in a bunker all your life and they were ready to face death breathing unclean air rather than stay in there little hole. And so they did. And after removing the rubble that cut their valley off from the outside world, they discovered that the world had descended into anarchy. Gangs ruled, through drugs, slavery and terror. And so this small band decided to do something about it. And now, they fight alongside others recruited to their cause.
The GameA sort of 3d Fallout Tactics. You may command twelve soldiers. These soldiers are outnumbered. These soldiers are outgunned. These soldiers die very easily. You must make sure they do not. The gameplay revolves around periodic firefights, on a very large map that must be traversed by vehicle if you want to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time. You can has a variety of weapons, ranging from a pistol to an RPG and many vehicles, ranging from a car to a fighter/bomber. The game originally had horrific pathfinding but a patch fixed that. this link. The Blood Bishop BattleDavid switched off his microphone.
(The lads and ladettes)Daniel Miler watch the helicopter leave, as did the rest of him. He was excited. This mission was pivotal in preventing a hostile takeover from the Blood Bishop gang. Everyone had heard the stories. Drug trade, rape, slavery and some extreme tales spoke of genetic mutation. If, no,
when they succeeded, the area would be safe from the Blood Bishops, perhaps forever. He turned to the rest.
“Lets go,” he said, quietly. They moved out
David Reaves was their sniper and the closest thing the team had to a leader. He was a professional sharpshooter and was often picked to be the scout when they went out on missions. He moved out, scanning the area as he went along. It didn’t take long before he spotted something.
“Oh man,” he muttered. He looked over at the crouched form of Lucy, the team’s light weapons specialist and fellow scout and waved her over. The movement alerted the sentry.
He quickly aimed his rife and pulled the trigger. The bullet screamed across the space and buried itself in the mutant’s shoulder blades.
(The patch also added the ability to command troops whilst paused, making everything much more fun all round)Lucy came running up.
“What the hell was that?” she hissed. They entire team had overheard the conversation with base on their headsets and were on edge about the mutants. Nobody liked mutants. They were fast.
“He spotted me. I had to take him out,” replied David.
“How’s your ammo?” she asked, worried.
“Still got nine shots left,” he assured her.
“Don’t waste it, it’s hard to find and even harder to make,” she said. She turned back and called the team over.
One hurried discussion later and the team was moving out. They all knew the basic plan. David peeled off from the group and ran up a slope, lying down at the top of the hill, a fantastic position with a commanding view of the enemy camp. Better yet, he had six targets in his sights, He worked out how dangerous they were and adjusted his targets accordingly.
He thumbed his radio.
”Sniper, waiting for a green light,” he said. Military training never really left you.
”Roger that sniper, we are moving into position,” came the reply.
The team stopped just short of the base, in the trees.
“Now,” whispered Boris. Lucy shot out of the trees, moving silently. She dropped to her knees. Ahead of her was a patrolling guard, her target. He stopped and she pulled out her knife. She threw it.
He died without a sound. The rest of the group moved round the back, spooking a domesticated cow.
They moved into formation. Alexej drew a grenade, being the designated heavy weapons specialist. He was about to prime it when the cow bolted past them, mooing. The men round the fire looked round and spotted them.
“Oh hell,” said David, training his weapon on one of the gang members.
”This is sniper, what is the situation? Over,” he asked urgently.
Lucy thumbed the switch.
”Sniper, you have a green light, over,””Roger, green means go, over and out,” replied David. He pulled the trigger.
The first shot hit the man in the neck, causing one of the mutants in the camp to shout the alarm. David quickly reacquired.
The next man caught a bullet to the gut, ripping through most of his organs, killing him instantly.
Once more for luck, thought David.
The final bullet was a headshot. Whilst this was going on, the other two targets were hopping into the humvee. If one got onto the turret it could be disastrous, but luckily in their confusion they had neglected the armoured APC. Lucy and Boris quickly hopped in and Boris trained the gun on the enemy vehicle.
He then swivelled the turret towards the last gang member and gunned him down, point blank.
”Base, this is Alexej, we have secured the camp,” radioed Alexej.
They cleanup began. The camp was loaded with weapons and the group began scavenging what they could. It was when Alexej jumped into one of the trucks to plant a homing beacon on it, so they could pick it up later, that the real discovery was made.
This included bullet proof vests, which were taken by everyone except the sniper, because there wasn’t enough. David didn’t complain. He didn’t plan on getting close enough to be shot at by anyone.
The men and women all hopped into the APC’s and trucks whilst David did a last minute sweep. The entire group had ample supplies now, including a grenade launched and timed dynamite. David climbed a wall into the church and tripped over… a RPG? Astonishing, just lying here, next to the man with several bullet holes in his chest. Why, anyone could take it! He picked it up along with its accompanying missile and loaded them into one of the trucks. The team drove out.
