Democratic, when war comes again, we'll have enough resources gathered by our populous to build mighty mechanical masterpieces then! point the Spartans at them.

Fixed it. Seriously, the Spartans are excellent once they have surrendered. Give them tech, give them some time to rebuild from their defeat, and they will make support-free, well-trained armies for you.

Using the Spartans as a personal army sounds like a good plan to me.  But won't they just capture cities in their own name?  If it won't take much more effort, I say you just eliminate this conservative scum once and for all bypass the training camp and liberate Sparta command before giving them the honor of surrendering to you.  Keep the name.

Once they have offered, they won't offer again, unfortunately. And if you time it correctly (especially once you have drop pods) you can normally use them to soften things up before you come in and seize the cities yourself.

I noticed that the surrender pacts actually count toward your "Three pact maximum for victory", despite the game saying otherwise.  Could be wrong, but the last game I played involved four surrendered factions, and I had to kill one of them off before the game would declare me the victor.

EDIT: Still, I'd suggest keeping the Spartans as solders, they're better than most factions at this.

Really? I'm sure I've finished one pact + 3 surrenders before. Were you playing the original or updated version? It may have been a fixed bug or something.

It probably was a bug from the original.  I'll have to see about updating.

That's a shame because, opposed as we are to pirating, I am so totally no longer offering it on megaupload as a matter principle.
