All in favour of betraying Morgan and taking his headquarters, say aye!

AYE! Though you might be able to demand the base in tribute, which would prevent diplomatic issues. I remember there being some issues about going back on surrenders.

You could also wait for one of the people he's at war with to take the base, and then take it from them. That's less certain, though.

aaand congratulations.  You've effectively just gotten me to devote my entire Sunday to this game.

...as soon as it's done downloading.

I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Is Morgan Collections his HQ?  If not, subversion is a valid tactic.  Otherwise, try demanding it in tribute first.

Alright... I hadn't fully read this thread when I posted last, but I have now!  I'm all for betrayal to grab that Wonder-thing... although I don't have a reason to hate Morgan (other than the extreme prejudice against him on these boards :P) since I haven't really played enough of the game to get a grasp of the leaders' personalities yet.  But yeah, I'm excited to see the planet busters!

EDIT: Just finished my first game.  The transcendence ending is REALLY freaking weird.  I have to say, I tried not to spoil it, so the surprises along the way with regards to that method of winning really came out of left field.  Overall pretty awesome though!

I bought this game today. It was part of a 3 for £10 offer. I also got railroad tycoon 3 and a fallout collection(fallout 1,2 and tactics). Score! I also bought Empire:Total War and Bioshock and Oblivion twin pack. It was my birthday on sunday and I got a load of money and a graphics card. I'm set for the wonderful British summer.  :P

In the expansion there's a totally awesome tool that lets you make your own factions, and if you figure out how the files work, you can make really nifty twitches they don't let you make in the primary editor. More stuff, more fun, I always say!

Anyways, one of the totally twisted things you can do is set your funds from fungus squares to maximum for all resource types, and this, late game, can lead to eco-damage values in excess of 175 per base! Woo! Right? Of course, the warning would be that it sucks all the challenge out of the game unless you make moar dudes with similar bonuses. :) You can also edit the image files for a new faction, making custion base pictures, people pictures and other stuffs!

Yes it does, and you had better not get the whole planet blown to smithereens!

One day, we shall all look back on this, and laugh. Sorry about the face, by the way, and the legs, and the eyes, and the arms. In fact, sorry 'bout the whole body.

You can do that with the vanilla game, too.  I played Morganite for a game and got to something like 264 eco-damage.  Turned my territory into a field of boreholes and built a ton of Nessus mining stations and factory upgrades while I was at it, but I'd cleared the fungus so far from my territory I didn't suffer any retribution from Planet.

Just wondering how difficult multiplayer would be to set up for this game. I assume you know why.

We tried once.  The only option here is Play By EMail, and reminding seven people to keep playing and forwarding an email along in a timely manner is considerably harder than the game itself.  Accelerated Start would help.

Everyone, after you realize that it's the only way to play Alpha Centauri online.

Well, sans Serial Connection, but then everyone has to be online at the same time, or something.
