This is an oft made suggested.  VERY oft made.  Comes up every month or so, I think.  Toady responded to the first one, made WAAY back, and said that making a task priority list is harder than you might think, and would basically require a complete rewrite of the entire task management system.  This is because, right now, dwarves don't choose tasks, tasks choose dwarves.

I assumed it was something like this; it seems to work that way, anyhow...  Well... That doesn't mean that it's an invalid suggestion. :P
