Before SPORE was released I was kinda hoping it'd have plenty of simearth influences. but... *cough*. Other thread goes into that in quite alot of detail, doesn't it? Actually, releasing another simearth-style game probably wouldn't be too hard even as an indie project, Dwarf-fortress style. Pity I can barely manage to write in HTML, or I'd give it a shot.

The level of cloning you speak of isn't available due to limitations of current technology.

Well darn.  I was really expecting Toady One to clone himself and make the game faster.  Jeez.

Has anyone mentioned Incursion yet?  It's another roguelike, and although there's not really a whole lot of "large scale" events going on, it's the closest thing to a living world I've seen so far.  Very fun to walk into a room filled with corpses and junked equipment and try to figure out what happened.

I used to hack my save files so I started with exactly enough for a barely big enough lobby, staircase, floor, and a single office, and nothing else.

EDIT:  One year takes less than four seconds on my computer in fast mode.

yeah, condos give you a quick early-game money boost, but they're just a waste of space as time goes by.  biggest return is usually large office blocks.  you can run 2 floors of office space with just stairs, but proper elevator management quickly becomes the name of the game.

once you get lots of stuff in there, you can start playing with underground parking and subways and sky-malls and shit.  i think you have to unlock those though, and that there is a certain percentage of hotel space required... i forget what all the unlockable features were, but i defenitly spent many an evening with a friend competing to make the most efficient and all-feature-inclusive tower designs.

of course, the easter-egg key combination to make the taller lobby was a requirement... the grand escilator was pretty crazy.

Hold Shift+Ctrl while placing the lobby.
