Don't they have your blood type listed in your medical record?

I found out I'm O+ just recently at an ob-gyn appointment, so I'm planning on giving blood as soon as I recover from giving birth. :)

I mean, I haven't checked too much into this, but I'm guessing they don't want blood that's filled to the brim with hormones, right? And I'm also guessing they don't want to bleed me dry since my little one is doing that quite efficiently on his/her own at the moment.

Ha! :D I was ready before getting pregnant (experience with siblings more than twelve years younger than me, some couples therapy to help both of us prepare for parenthood, etc.--basically as ready as you can be without actually having kids), but thank you for the advice.

You should really check to see what gender your baby is. That information will come in handy later.

Oh believe me, we've tried. ;)

Last appointment I went to, at 20 weeks, the baby wasn't cooperative--it basically went to sleep with its legs crossed. The ob-gyn tried all manner of poking and prodding, and I tried drinking cold water, eating a piece of candy (sugar rush tends to wake baby up), and I stayed on the table for a good half hour. Nothing doing. Baby didn't want to uncross its legs. :D

We're going to try again at my next appointment, which is in about eight days. Beyond that, if the baby isn't cooperative, then we'll have to wait until birth (barring taking DNA through a great big needle, which I don't feel comfortable with and wouldn't be covered by insurance, there's no other way to find out what the sex is).

But anyway, back on topic . . .

HMmmmmm.....I don't think I can donate blood, not that the needles freak me out (I like the feeling, sue me), but because I black out if I stand up too quickly.  I have Aqizzar's problem.

I never blacked out. At least I'll get to know what it feels like.

Plus there's the weight issue.   ::)

They wouldn't take me both ways.

I'm 185cm tall and weigh 90 KG. I don't think a weight limit will hold me back.

Incidentally, I barely eat and I moderately work out. Yet my weight just stays at 90 no matter what. At least at this rate, I'll eventually stop being overweight when I get taller.

Yes. I have a white hole in my stomach. You know all those black hole people who eat tons of shit and never gain a gram? Well where do you think all that mass goes?

I like donating blood, but for some reason, I don't feel like doing it in Australia. I dunno.. maybe I don't feel like helping people here because of patriotism or something. Maybe it's all those "You might have a STD" warnings that make me subconsciously worry about that sort of thing, that somehow, I'd get AIDS because I was donating blood next to someone who has it.

Yeah, maybe sometime later I'll get the guts to do it again.

I'm a pretty healthy weight, and my blood is fine.
Which is why I'm keeping it.
