ok, i am finally starting this fortress
i bet i will fail so hard
ive got a small mountain and a large one, the small one ill probably start carving out, ive made a 6 tile wide aboveground passage that runs between the mini mountain and the macro mountain, which ill probably make a roof over later on, so as to make a secure connection with both the outside world and the two mountains, the mini mountain will probably become a military fortress, so my mining is keeping this in mind, although ill have to do a LOT of manufacturing of new walls (too much sand). im also tossing up whether to keep the natural stone structure of the mountain or just mine it into oblivion and make a new tower out of obsidian or something, the lack of being able to engrave will be mitigated by the sheer awesomeness of a massive fortress tower, covered in fortifications and menacing with spikes of dead goblin
(i actually dont have any contact with a goblin civilization, so replace that with human bone, maybe)
the main (read, civilian) part of the fortress ill make later on, ill carve it into the big mountain, that i am pretty sure will be crammed with silver, and maybe some iron if im exceptionally lucky. the guaranteed magma pipe, river and fortress will come in handy later on
i have plenty of booze but the river is on the other side of the big mountain, far away from my base camp, so ill be carving a channel to bring the water to my dwarves, maybe even make a moat, if i ever want to get rid of it i can just build a floor over it
i plan to make what i think is the best kind of anti-siege defense, a covered pit that sends enemies straight to the heart of my industry
, once i get an industry going...
edit: uploaded my map so that people cant get an idea for whats going on:
